engine flushing
hey i'm changing the oil and filters soon in a 2.0 hdi and i was going to use a engine flush the you put into the oil went the oil is hot and let it run at about 2000rpm for 10 mins, anyone ever done this or any pros and cons to doing this thanks

John, i blew up a £40k audi turbo by using flush.
it dislodges crap that then blocks the oil feeds to the head and turbo.

My HDi was flushed with Forte every single oil change and the dealers/most indies do it too.
It's a bit weird pouring in a diesel-like liquid but I never had any issues. Kept the oil clean for longer too.
I think the key thing is...If it's always been flushed then carry on doing it but if it's never been flushed then maybe don't risk it

I think its true if its always been used, maybe its ok. My oil from the audi before it blew up was like jelly cos of the mixed oils sludge issue that plagues them, but I also reckon the flush before the new synth oil was what killed it quicker. just skimming along at 60 when the turbo started squealing then the vvt chain tensioner dropped out sending the chain flapping, it boxed up under one cam and the rubber timing belt jumped the front drive sprocket....all this black rubbery crap was stuck like sh*t on a blanket to the strainer and blocking the oilways to the head and turbo too, even with the oil still golden.
I'm still paying for the car and they wanted £3k for a second hand engine 2 years ago, now they are a bit cheaper but the cars got mushrooms growing in it now and not worth the price of the original engine cos of depreciation.
So no, I dont use flush now

I would never use engine flush unless the owner requested it and was prepared to take the consequences if any engine damage occurs.
If the oil and filter has been changed at regular intervals then there is no need for it.

Hmmm, to flush or not to flush? I've always flushed mine from new, took it to the garage last service though so don't know if they flushed it or not.....
Never flushed any other car I've owned though.

i wouldnt bother, just do a couple extra oil changes, will make up for it

i service my motor every 6 months (when i re tax it)
my oil always stays clean inside the engine it never goes jet black in that 6 months period, so i dont see any reason to flush,

We never use engine flush on our coaches or lorries. We just change the oil and filters when they are due. Some of these vehicles have done 1.5 million miles doing this with no problems.

i work on london buses ,all they get is oil and filter every 3 months ,fuel filters every 6 months ,gearbox oil once a year ,no flushing at all
may be good ,maybe be bad but it keeps me in work
