Autobox winter & sport mode

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Autobox winter & sport mode

Post by Roylewaa »

Ive just noticed today that when either the winter or sport buttons are pressed near the gearshift nothing seems to happen, theirs no light on the dash to indicate they are activated

I'm assuming they can be activated whilst the car is being driven?

any ideas on this one? other than this the slushy box is working perfectly

Cheers for any info

I can't remember how the auto shifter sits in the centre console, but can you pop stuff up and give the connector under the buttons a clean?

Maybe the bulbs blew? Do the modes actually function?

The snow mode will probably do something only use second gear to pull away, the sport mode should hold the gears longer, like having kick down all the time.

Sorted, the plug had became disconnected from the switch, popped it back it and all working now

I see what you mean with the kickdown there all the time, its holds in the gear much longer, champion for when I fancy some ' sporty' driving

I don't see the point of sporty driving in an auto, as most of the fun is gone as theres no going up and down the gears anymore :(

Never thought i'd say it, I miss a manual, already

Manuals are more fun but I feel that autos (especially the more modern ones) are good too. I was driving my uncles beemer 520d 2008 and i loved the auto. So easy to drive and when you want to do some manual driving there is the manual tiptronic option.

I know what you mean with the beamers, a mate of mine had a 323 coupe with a semi automatic box and that was cool as you shifted the stick up and down to manually change when you fancied a blast

Before i got the 406 i had a 740 E38 (1999) it came with tiptronic auto box and you just cant beat the combo of a huge engine (4.4) and a good tiptronic box in sports/tiptronic soooo much fun :cheesy:

it embarrassed everything out there including the fucos ST boys and the subaru crowd from a standing start that thing was just plain wrong, a 2 tonne car doing 0-60 in sub 6 seconds on a good dry day and it just kept on going all the way to 180+ the best 380 quid i ever spent that remapp :supafrisk: mind you it was only 17 mpg hence the move to a 90 HDI when the crunch came :(

oh good days  maybe again one day

Wow thats some serious downgrade!!

That BMW 7 Series model is the best looking BMW of all time in my opinion. I was hooked ever since I saw 'tomorrow never dies'. I'd love to own a 750i V12 someday

It was my dream car, always wanted the 740 over the 750 coz i love the V8 in it over the V12 of the 750, but then along came my son quickly followed by the credit crunch and the inevitable redundancy from the ( well paid) job in a well known property developers so it wasnt much of a decision to make tbh

and your right about the E38 being THE 7 series to have, drove better looked better sounded better than any of the others old and new! thats my "baby" in my pic

sorry to hijack the thread, but to drag it back round to the 406 auto, glad you sorted the modes out it makes such a difference :supafrisk:
