Would you trust the 'Swapz' website

Post by Roylewaa »

Ive got my wifes old Nokia 5800 touchscreen phone and a chap has offered his LG bluetooth Mp3 head unit as a straight swap

I'm a little dubious as basically i'd be posting it to a complete stranger hoping he's an honest guy and sends the head unit

anybody know where I stand if it all goes horribly wrong

Not so bothered about losing the phone, Its the wrath of my angry other half and no 'special treats' for 6 months

  Yup, thats the true motivator eh?

Dunno mate, just had a quick look on the swapz website's help pages and there doesn't seem to be any kind of protection policy, the closest I can find is a statement along the lines of "You will be able to trace the other party if something goes wrong...."

There is a forum on there, have a read through that maybe, there must be others having the same doubts?? :?

I wouldn't put trust in anyone without seeing a history of happy people. I would NOT buy a high value item off anyone with bad/none feedback on ebay, unless I could do it in person and verify it's all good on the spot... Luckily this 'swapz' website has history... Use it!

Check out the first user I clicked on... no way would I send this guy anything!

If you see a string of "pleasure to do business with" from different people though, it's a reasonable chance (but not a given!) the user's trustworthy
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

i've been a member on swapz for 2 or 3 years mate, and swapped a few cars on there but never a small postable item.

there is no real protection for anything as they are not responsible for any dealings between members and in reality if you send something to someone and they dont send their item you are sunk, as possession is everything and no contract exists between you, only recourse is a civil action with presented documentary evidence and would be costly and pointless, but iss the bloke not close enough to drive there and do the swap in person?

I have always swapped cars so had to meet up with them, and i stick to swappers in my own county.

The site has no control over the users and plays no part in the actual swap.

Send it Royal Mail Special Delivery, its tracked, signed for and has £400 insurance cover.

Not expensive but at least you can prove you sent it and keep any swapz messages that were exchanged between you.
