Engine clonk! xud11bte

Post by Broomer »

Evening all,

my 406 has recently gained a slight knock which became apparent when the engine rocked slightly when de accelerating etc, tonight it has got alot worse, i have had a look at the top mount and it doesn't look too bad ( ever so slightly perished ) and i cant even see the lower one. The knock is by the pedal box and has become much louder and regular.

The Haynes doesn't say anything about the lower mount. where shall is start? I don't wanna end up changing every mount at 20 quid a time to find its the last one i do.

I had the same on my 2.1, I tracked it down to the top engine mount, the mushroom bit underneth the mount that bolts to the inner wing, it had come loose, all I did was undo the very left hand nut on the top, jack up the engine to lift the weight of the mount and tighten up the ruber mushroom with a hammer and drift ( it just screws into the inner wing) then put everything back together.
I found if I reved the engine wile looking at the mount i could see it moving.
It took about 15 mins and has been fine ever since.

changed the mount and the noise is still there.

if you suddenly plant your foot on the throttle, or suddenly take your foot off the throttle, i still get a knock by the footwell, it seems to get louder/ more exaggerated if your turning right,

ive had a look and yanked the ARB, and drop links etc and i cant work out what it is. i changed the completely shagged lower engine mount and the others seem ok..

need some ideas chaps...
