Late last night I was on my way home from a friends house in my 4ohh when I decided to let her rip along a desserted dual carriageway. I achieved an indicated 106mph (HDI 90 saloon). I can't help but feel a little deflated as my ACTUAL speed was probably in the mid 90's
What speed have you guys (fictionally) reached in your 406's?
I (have not) topped 100 before I hit the red line, at which point I would have gotten scared and slowed down - if I had actually been going that fast (which I wasn't). Thus I'm unsure what my car's top speed is (theoretically).

106 is not great for a 90 HDi. I did 115 once in it.
I (allegedly ) did 132mph on Saturday on a deserted motorway in the coupe. gearing was stopping it from going faster. My god it can really drink oil at high speed.

Yeah I'm definately disappointed. My 405 1.9 Turbo-D was capable of 115mph. I know the 406 is a heavier car but the HDI is supposed to have more torque than the D-Turbo and I figured the 406 would be a bit more aerodynamic at speed?? My 406 has had a life of luxury, my mum never drove it beyond 60 and it prob never went past 2000rpm. Could this be a case of the car getting lazy over the years after not being 'driven'...?
Mechanically i'd say its now near perfect, oils been changed, new timing belt and auxilary belt, new fuel filter and housing, new K&N panel filter.

(Hypothetically) I got my 1.8 petrol saloon up to 115 MPH along a completely deserted totally flat and straight A-Road in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the day. In fact (If this really happened) I only slowed down because there was a turn in the road coming up. The car was still giving some pull by that time though; I'm sure (were this an actual event) that she could have gone a bit faster if there had been a longer stretch of road.
I checked my TomTom and (were this actually true) it was showing about the same speed as the speedo showed - give or take 1 or 2 MPH.
