Ball joint query

Hi i have an mot failure of a balljoint.

This is what it says:

Offside front suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint

Now ive jacked up the car and had a look at the arm but the only ball joint on the arm is the one that comes out the bottom of the hub that the arm bolts onto, can these be what they mean? this looks like it can be seperated and replaced because if i bought the arm, in theory it still wouldnt sort the problem as the arm unbolts from it?

id appreciate some theorys on this

how do u get it off the car? any special tools i need?

i thought that one, maybe wrong ? if you wobble the wheel when its jacked up you will see which one its coming from

or maybe its the droplink ,

Maybe mot testers need a can of white paint... Or it might be an idea to get the guy to show you exactly what he's talking about I always get the guy to show me the offending part, just so I know he's not yanking my chain in the hopes of some easy cash for "fixing" it.

If it's the bottom ball joint then I gather it needs a special tool. I think common practice is to get the whole arm, balljoint included, off one in the scrappies.

The rest of the arm is fine its just the balljoint or A balljoint which must b the hub one.

Surely its cheaper to pay £10 then £60 + ?

Just need to know how to get it out, sumone said on here there was a pin or sumthin you have to take out before it will b released but cant remember?

I could look it up but it's probably better coming from someone who's actually done this.

I would have thought as the mot tester has put dangerous on the sheet it wud b noticeable on the balljoint like the rubber being ripped and abit greasy but looks fine (the one on the hub)

I cant go bk to the mot station as i live about 40 miles away from it.

Thats a nifty little tool init, i take it it slips over the whole balljoint itself?

Looks like it fits over the bottom of the balljoint. Make sure it's the right one! (Haynes don't say )

Just looked through there own advisory sheet and it says bottom ball joint, is this the one that screws into the bottom of the hub then and goes through the end of the wishbone? cheers
