Gotta get a NOOO car

Post by supafrisk »

I have my wishlist, but why is it when you don't have money you see loads of cars exactly the right spec price etc but when you GET the money they're all gone???

So if anyone spots the following, please let me know...

I want a 607 IN BLACK (NOT SILVER!!!)
Preferably on an 06 or later but got to be at least a 55 plate (06 is when they brought in the 2.2 170bhp variant :supafrisk: )
I want an exec but I would settle for SE IFFFFF it had leather.
Got to be a diesel and manual transmission.
Preferably a 2.2 but might settle for a 2.0 because I'm running out of time :(
And under £7000.

Over to you guys... :cheesy:

Not all 2006 607s have the 2.2 170 HDi. I believe they came in mid way through that year. If you're getting one, i strongly recommend you wait to get the exec. It has a few more goodies like xenons and 4 heated seats. The SE has the sat nav and the levvers. The S hasnt either of those. I think from 2007 onwards, they were all executives.

This is an exec Its a pretty good one so I wouldnt be too fussy on the colour.

I'd go for the 607 Eoin pointed out (even though I don't like silver cars) if it was closer to me. Looks like a lot of car for the money, and you'd have a cracking car for taxi / private hire car service.

just 50 miles up the M1 :cheesy:

Id put a penny to a pound thats neither a 170 or an exec. Have a second look at the one i suggested. Other than the colour, it ticks all the boxes. And its low mileage and a year newer than the belfast one

edit: after clicking into the ad, it is an exec. Nice one. Get it. Still think it would have the 136 though. But that sure aint slow!! I have experience of that engine in a 607 with a 5 speed. Very refined and quick past 30 This would be a 6 speed so id imagine it'd be more economical and sprightly

It may be difficult to get flights in and out of Belfast "George Best" City / International airport, given the volcano. You may be as well getting a boat.

Norfolk Line run a boat from Liverpool to Belfast docks, P&O run a boat from Fleetwood to Larne.
From Scotland, Stena run from Stranraer to Belfast, P&O run from Cairnryan and Troon to Larne.

If the car is in Bushmills, Larne may be slightly closer. I would recommend contacting the seller as they may be willing to pick you up (certainly any car I have bought from England, the seller has always been more than willing to pick me up from the nearest airport / ferry terminal).

Otherwise, Ulsterbus 252 (Coleraine) run from Larne to Bushmills a couple of times a day, takes a couple of hours

From Belfast the same bus leaves at 0905 only.

(Translink Journey Planner http://translink.co.uk/jp/jpclient.exe? ... y=NewQuery )

Or you could ask one of the local 406oc'ers nicely :) :)

I'm not complaining about Ireland, I've always wanted to go, it's just the cost and inconvenience. One of my regulars is from Kells and he says it costs a fortune to drive over, better to go as a foot passenger on the ferry. However, I'd still have to bring it back on my own, on the ferry - what an experience that would be lol

The boat itself, foot passenger cost is only about £20, and the boats to Scotland with a car are usually about £110. £130 in total for boats.

It's not that scary driving it yourself, I've done it loads of times :)

It is about 60 miles from Belfast to Bushmills, about £6 - £10 in diesel depending on how you drive it.

Just remember to get her insured. I once was halfway up the motorway before I remembered I hadn't called them

Only other thing I can see, does it come with an MOT? It is 2006 so due its first NI MOT this year. If it has one it will be displayed as a disc on the windscreen. If not, as it is >3 years it will need an MOT before driving in GB.

NI MOTs should be legal, I have taxed cars in Scotland before (though the post office did end up looking it up and down).

As far as the V5 goes, technically it is an import, so you will need to fill in a different part of the form. Make sure the seller knows this too.
If the DVLA are as useless as the DVLNI, then they will post you a form asking for all sorts of figures like the dB noise of the exhaust  it is easier to go to the local tax office and they should just ask you to fill in the basics such as VIN etc. as the vehicle is already EU / UK import approved.
You will need to send your NI tax to Swansea, they should swap it for a GB disc with the same date.
Importing from GB to NI I was given the chance to change the plates, I would imagine NI to GB would be similar. Keeping NI plates would hide the age / look a bit "chavvy" / look a bit touristy depending on your own views. I once had someone ask if my name was "MAZ"...
