been looking at 406 hdi 110 with 190.000on clock priced at 1000 what do i need to look out for do these cars do the milage

mines over 235,000 miles and runs perfect except for injector rattle, common on all hdi's.

the usual timing belt replacements and service history should be there, or they can and will break like any motor if not looked after. Also the bottom crank pulley often disintegrates and rattles before flying apart in some cases, and the dual mass flywheel can need replaced with the clutch which is costly, but its a good work horse if its in reasonable nick mate.

there should be no difficulty starting, no smoke whatsoever even cold, no rattles when revving in neutral (hdi injector rattle only occurs under load between 2k and 3.2k rpm and a fooked pulley rattles all the time)

just bought the car i was wondering what the duel mass flywheels are like if there any major issues with them

any DMF in any make of car can give problems, particularly due to folk letting the clutch wear right down till it slips, then the extra heat generated cooks the mechanism that cushions the take-up shock and it can begin to make noises or judder on take up, but you may be able to find an aftermarket solid flywheel when clutch time comes and change over.

Otherwise the DMF usually needs replaced with the clutch. My subaru one had high spots from slippage heating but was fine apart from a judder on light take up that you just got used to.

picked car up today jesus does it go when you plant the right foot not used to it after driving a d8td for last 4 years

just got one small problem the steering wheel if of centre when the wheels are straight

Hopefully that's just bad track setting - you're supposed to turn both track rods to set it, so the steering wheel remains straight. Probably worth getting it checked out anyway, else it'll eat tyres.

something like 60k miles, but I would do it every 50k myself.

On an HDi? Pug says 96k or 80k for hard use (load of short journeys, stop starts etc.) I'd go with the lower figure, or do it now if you've not got a full history with the car.

well, I dont know about the hdi belt duration but I would be shitting it leaving a belt for 80 - 90k, I have had 3 break on me on cars that should have long intervals and waaaaay before that interval came round, 1 audi, 1 alfa, 1 ford........but thats just me like I said.

I think extended service intervals are bad news and the work of Satan....

That's fair enough, I've not had a cam belt go yet but I'd think it was well worth avoiding.

I think the intervals are even longer on newer cars, I love paranoid motoring
