Re: new car
yeah its great eh LOL
every bloody car make you can think of has issues now, and we all jump from make to make trying to find one that wont break! In retrospect when they got more complex to achieve emissions regs, they got more fragile, as much as I hate to say it, electronics is way more unreliable than mechanical any day, but its cleverer and gets you round some awkward problems that mechanical means cant.
I also think they could make a timing belt that is ultra strong, and would not need replacing for many many years but that doesnt generate after-sales revenue for years does it - like audi A4 wipers being audi only and £54 a set.....nice wee earner every mot time! They changed the design of something universal and with no reason or benefit, its just different, and oem unique. Like the bad old days ;)
When the belts went on my cars it was total disaster. My audi turbo is only 6 years old and they wanted £3k for another recon engine! The car has only 54k miles on it, but is out of warranty obviously. However audi say the belt should have lasted 80k...

Re: new car
I usually recommend 40,000 miles or 4 years for VW/Audi, I know the book says longer, but they have a habit of early failure.FlySpeck wrote:

The Ford Zetec petrol engine belts are 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Now *that's* a common one
No proper seal on the aerial base - unscrew the aerial base and put it back with some silicon sealant. You'll need to take off the roof console to get to it

Re: new car
Mine has 178k, steering wheel slightly off centre.. ate through pair of fronts part worns way too fast!!steve_earwig wrote:Hopefully that's just bad track setting - you're supposed to turn both track rods to set it, so the steering wheel remains straight. Probably worth getting it checked out anyway, else it'll eat tyres.

Re: new car
My Volvo's timing belt is every 100,000 miles or 10 years
(apparently it's a brute of a belt).
Oil is every 12000 or 12 months which is good (even if the oil is £75.00)

Re: new car
I thought it had one already
Oh, you mean the Pug (who dragged the topic off talking about bluddy Vulvas again?
), possibly (407 HDi) but no-one's been brave enough to try it yet.
Makes me laugh, I've been watching a Swedish tv cop show (Wallander), in the English version they're all driving Volvos and Saabs, in the Swedish one proper they're driving Hyandies
