Mega-bump

The steering wheel will not fit at all :( Even had the garage try and fit it yesterday when I took her in for her annual service.

I now have a leather steering wheel for sale for a late D9 (2003) - open to offers

Won't fit? you mean like it won't fit on the splines or summat?

I'm sure the wheel would actually fit on, but the airbag is screwed on through the back of the wheel, and the new wheel does not have those screwholes, I wouldn't be able to get the airbag to fit.

The bag that came with the wheel would fit to the wheel, but not if the wheel is actually in position, something to do with the way the two wheels were designed to fit on to their respective cars. Seems an early D9 is a world apart from a 2003 model.

And since the airbag is also the horn trigger, I wouldn't be able to use the horn even if I went mad and didn't fit an airbag. So that would be an MOT fail.

That is indeed the crux of the matter.
The 2003 and 2004 model 406s are Multiplexed and have a Com2000 system which basically makes them as good and incompatible for most electrical items.
The airbag on the steering wheel has two elextrical connecters as opposed to the one connector for the D8s and earlier D9s.

There are screw holes on the Multiplexed steering wheels, they are just further inward and a swine to get at once the wheel is in place. Or so I have seen on the late models I have come across in the scrapyard.

I suggest getting a steering wheel from a 2000 or 2001 406. That is what I did for my D8 Saloon. Worked a treat.

Oh, there are half a dozen of them. I'll take a trip on Saturday and see how much they want.

Sweeeeet 8)

Push comes to shove, my existing airbag should still work - so if they want loadsamoney for a wheel plus airbag, but not a lot for just the wheel, that's even better.
