Fuses

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Fuses

Post by highlander »

Hey all,

Need a little help; still trying to work out what's up with my passenger-side electric window. Previously, I asked my local garage to look at it, they replaced the "actuator", which I think just means the motor. The garage replaced both drivers-side and passenger-side electric window switches this week, so I know the switches aren't the problem.

I realise I should have done this before, but I have never been able to figure out which fuse I should replace. I always maintain that I'm a total novice when it comes to cars, electronics, etc. I really don't know what I'm doing, and I am always a bit nervous that I'll take a bad situation and make it a whole lot worse.

I am looking at the fuses pages on my owner's handbook. A copy of this can be found here:
http://documentation.peugeot.com/defaul ... model=1PD9 - click the "saloon" icon at the top (left-most icon), then click "01/01/2002 - 30/06/2002"

On the page "Practical Information" -> "Changing a Fuse" -> "Removing and Changing a Fuse", there is a small diagram of what my fuse box is supposed to look like. Mine doesn't look like that, as far as I can see (it's the same diagram as is on my printed owners manual).

Also on that page there is a table of fuses numbered A to F. Fuse E is supposed to be for "Electric Windows", but I don't know which fuse that is on my actual fuse box, as the layout appears to be different.

On the "Instrument Panel Fuses" page, the table says that Fuse 13 is for the "Driver's Electric Window". I cannot see any mention of the "Passenger's Electric Window" anywhere in the list of fuses.

Help would be appreciated - for a car that has two electric windows, could someone tell me exactly which fuses I should try replacing?

I will get a photo of my fuse box if needed.

Next step will be finding someone who has a multimeter. If it turns out to be wiring, I'll be a bit peeved as the cheapest quote I've got, for a 30 minute diagnostic session at an auto-electrical workshop, is £75. FOR 30 MINUTES OF LOOKING; that doesn't include the cost of repairs, or the time it will take to make those repairs.

Thanks
Graeme

I actually have the original print handbook that came with the car. The fuses page is identical to that on the documentation page I linked to.

only thing u cud do is get a torch and have a proper look through ur fuse box if any fuses are blown, the passenger window may get its power from something else?

Can you hear the motor working at all? you cud try take off the door panel and get to the motor, unplug it and put a voltmeter on it to c if the powers gettin to the motor?

No sound from the motor at all

Will need to check all the fuses individually, I guess

Aren't cars fun :(

if your fuses are all ok, get a voltmeter from a tool shop or most car shops do them probably under £10. Then check the plug goin to the motor, if theres power you know its the motor gone, sumtimes a tap on the side of the motor will get it going again!

Oh yes cars are a joy, especially french ones!! :P
