there are companies which do diesel remaps. Most of those, if you Google for them, talk about the HDI engines. However I have seen at least one company in the UK offering to remap 2.1 engines. Bear in mind though that you engine is already tuned well towards the economy end, and when we talk about remaps it's usually to get more power at the expense of economy :)

I've just lost my reply to swiss's

Derv Doctor do/did a map for the 2.1. It is not an HDi engine but it is electronically controlled so can be re-tuned.

On diesels most owners can report better economy overall because the engine is not working so hard when cruising etc :|

Your 'cheeseburger' warning sounds like the low coolant level warning to me. You should check and top up the coolant (when engine cold) but also keep an eye on your radiator at the bottom for signs of leaks around the pipe connections. Also look at the left side of the engine (as you open the bonnet) for signs of leaks from the water pump which lives behind the cambelt cover but will show leaks at the bottom end. If its not losing coolant regularly the you should be ok.

The 2.1 is the non-ecu Lucas EPIC system, pretty much a basic mechanical unit.

Best option for tuning is to swap over to a Bosch injection system.

I must have been asleep to miss the HDI part of the thread title!

Never knew they put HDI engines into p-reg 406s.

They didn't, the HDi made its first appearance in the much-discussed D8.5 late S/T reg semi-facelift jobs in 1998.

The guy I bought my 2.1 off tried to tell me it was an HDi  No, the 2.1 isn't, it's just a plain old TD. Hooray.

I understood the 2.1 to be semi-electronically controlled and mappable as a result but it doesn't have the ubber-controls of the HDi.

Where's Jenny gone anyway?

Really? I'll shut up then (first time for everything!), thought they were the basic fly-by-wire rheostat working the pump lever type units. Live and learn :)
