Exhaust blow, most noticable in reverse...
Coming out of the car wash, the exhaust started blowing.
Strange thing is, it is just about noticable when driving, but most noticable when reversing.
Are there any exhaust manifolds that would act differently in reverse gear?
Cheers

Maybe the flexi section at the front, the engine will tilt when under load if the engine mounts are shot, especially the lower one (mines totally cattle trucked to be honest)
now in not sure but maybe the engine tilts the other way when in reverse? i have a head full of English tenses for a lesson this afternoon so cant think it out right now, but somebody who knows about this stuff will point you in the right direction, to me common sense says forward the torque will send the engine one way reverse maybe the other way??
oh i dont know, thats my two penne'th worth.

Downpipe flexi I reckon (ripping open when the engine moves t'other way which may also indicate worn lower engine mount but I won't go into that too much just yet
).
Just have a good looky around the back box too just in case.

Downpipe flexi and worn engine mounts.
Cheers for your advice.
Bit disheartening as its more work that it needs all of a sudden, with trying to get settled in to the new house and that was hoping that it wouldn't need much just yet.
I'm assuming downpipe flexi rip wont get through an MOT.

You could pop into one of those smaller independant eggsauce places and get them to have a look for you (it's very hard to check properly on your drive without ramps and all that).
MOT wise it depends if it's detected
Diesels don't sound that much different with holey eggsauces and it's very hard to check the flexi. Any leak before the tail pipe is a bit naughty though in the MOT.

Yea will take it to an eggsauce place, was going to take it to one of the tyre/exhaust/brake places to see about getting the handbrake tightened anyway.
Was hoping it would be handy on the pocket til later in the summer.

The engine is rattly when running, I'd assumed it was just being an old diesel. Engine mounts sound expensive.7403406 wrote:Maybe the flexi section at the front, the engine will tilt when under load if the engine mounts are shot, especially the lower one (mines totally cattle trucked to be honest)

Did they mention your CAT?
Da cat comes wiv da down pipe
Here follows and unusually large collection of photo's of my HDi Auspuff adventures - actually the only piece of eggpuff I didn't actually replace was the manifold
(I can laugh about it now the councelling has finished).....
Notice the kink which has kinda set-in over time..

A closer looky...

Oh Yes! the shiney newey (it was a proud moment)...

Up she goes........

And the solid connection to the unecessary CAT replacement....

New CAT...

And, the classic back box falls off shot....

They didn't mention a cat, the pipe and flexi were ordered for tomorrow, couple hundred squids inc vat fitted. Like you say it looks like the cat is part of it, unless theyre planning an epic weld?
I remember the backbox coming off my old ZX diesel, trailing along the ground sounded like a shopping trolley. Luckily at the time I lived on a looping road with an exhaust centre just up from it, so didn't need to trail it in reverse!

A couple of hundred does indeed sound like a new CAT section to me

New cat and new flexi fitted.
Seems to run a bit smoother, although the 1500-1800rpm misfire is now a bit more noticable.

Still a slight blow, noticable around 2000rpm. Taking it back to exhaust place at lunch.
