Tomato / Tom-ay-toe

Post by sirwiggum »

How do you pronounce Peugeot?

Pew-jowt?

Or

Per-jo

Must admit it depends what company I'm in.

If trying to be pretentious ( where previously Alfa Romeo sounded good ), Per-Jo.

At the scrappys, one of those Pew-jowts!

2bh, I pronounce it 'Pew-Jo', Renault falls into the same category for me, I pronounce it 'Ren-Alt'.....maybe its because I live out in the country, we have a different way of pronouncing everything

Renault is Ren-ult. Subtly similar :)

I don't think Pew-Jo is taking the proverbial. The way I say it I suppose is closer to Pew-Jowt.

Peugeot

Irish Way: Pee - u - joe
English Way: Per - Joe
French Way: Peu - Joe

And you know that the 'Joe' part isnt really joe. I just dont know any other way of spelling the 'joe' part.

Reanult

Irish way: Renn - awlte
French Way: Rhen - ohh
English Way: ????

Where I live and work most people just call it a pug as it seems to avoid this problem. However one foreign guy I onced worked with called it a " pee---oooh----geeee----ottt" that did always amuse me

When I was small I decided it ought to be 'Pegut'

Scots, for some reason, insist on calling it Pew-jo.

These days I say Purr-zho, which apparently is what the company calls itself (check out the TV spots)

Of course if I'm in posh company it's a perj-wah ^_^

I cant speak for the new gen ones but my mate had a 2000 Megane Saloon 1.4. Decent engine, the rest was absolute sh1te. Even the day it came out of the factory, the parts and plastics are just substandard. Doorcards 10mm thick, Rock hard carpets, flimsy sunvisors. Not to mention hard plasticy, thin, cheap, hollow dashboard. Rooooooooobish!!
