new 406 0wner needs help

Post by skyman »

Hi there picked my first 406 up on sat and very pleased i am with it I believe its a d8 from reading this board r reg, but seem to be suffering the same remote fob problem as every one else. it a two button fob with 2 keys i have acertained which is primary and which is secondry, the central locking works fine with both keys but wont unlock remotely red light comes on when i press button , tried resync as explained on here but nothing seems to work it does say in one explanation the some 406s have to have the battery disconected for 1 minute before the keys can be resynced, does this mean the fob battery or car battery as I am loathed to disconect the battery and cause more problems as it has a few niggles electric wise that stop this car being an ablsolute mint for its 13yrs such as a couple of dash lights out a couple of switches on the heater/climate control not illuminating boot light not working changed bulb but no joy and digi clock not lighting this forum is brill and will post some photos of the old girl as soon as i take some any help would be much appreciated with any of these problems can live with using the key but would prefer not to. thanks

Hello & Welcome 8)

The only one on your list I've any personal experience of is the clock - prise it out, turn lampholder 1/4 turn & remove.

Someone else will be along soon to help with the rest....
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)

That's how we roll....

My bro's D8 has the same problem with the a/c & recirc not lighting up - think it could be down to lamp/holder 15 below:

0000611256 BULB-HOLDER £2.02 inc vat, (some of them you can just change the bulb for about 50p, others seem to be soldered into the holders).

Remove blanking plate to left of rear heated windows switch and remove screw, remove trip computer (or tray depending on trim level) and remove screw.
Pull radio out and you'll see another two torx screws behind it on either side securing the climate control unit.
With these removed you can pull it out and get to the bulbs :)

Hi
On my pug I have the upper climate display, but only the left hand side is illuminated (during the day). I've checked in my Haynes, but cannot find any mention of bulb replacement. So is the display self illunimating, in which case the right-hand side is not working, or is there a buld replacement option?

BTW My auomatic has a 'sports' button, a 'frost' button and a button with the firgure '1', neither the handbook or haynes mention this button, does anyone know what it's for? Pressing it doesn't seem to do anything. (the first time I tried it I was half affraid it was a ejector seat and I was going to lose my mrs)

Yes there are bulbs; remove the CC unit and you'll be able to swap them out :)
