Hello All

Post by zairs »

Just thought I'd introduce myself,
I'm looking at getting myself a 406 estate, I'm trying to get the 2.1 deisel 110Bhp. I found this one but I aint sure if to to good to be true especially as there are no pics. I want one with a tow bar and with as many goodies as possible. I was looking at spending £500 on it.
I was wondering if there is any way of knowing what deisel pump will be fitted
Is there anything else I need to know??

All 2.1's come with a Lucas pump thats ECU Controlled
Go for the 1.9TD. It's just as smooth and comes with a Bosch fuel pump meaning you can run it on vegtable oil. it can be tuned easilly bringing it to 110-115bhp :)
I was happy to see mine had a towbar. Unfortunatley it also means all my rear bushes are currently being changed (£500 job) because of the wear done while towing.

Welcome on in! :)

You cannot run an Hdi on veg oil, you will kill the engine!

You'll be after the D8 non Hdi diesels to do this.
Nice looking car in the ad you spotted though! :)

You have a 1.9TD with 92bhp with a bosch fuelpump that can be run on veg oil. The 2.1 lump has 110bhp and can only be run on diesel.
These engines were superceeded in favour for the HDi lumps which in the 406 come in 2.0 ande 2.2 varients with 90, 100 and 140bhp repectivley.

I'd keep an eye on ebay myself. If you're handy with the spanners you can pick up some right bargains.

Hi there. You might find the performance of the 1.9td a tad glacial... (sorry guys but :P ) the one in your ad is an HDi, not that there's anything wrong with a pre-multihex car but parts are still a tad more expensive (tad? I jest - much more expensive eg injectors 300 quid, as opposed to 40). The HDi has the same max bhp figure as the 2.1but driving it is a whole different ball game - here comes the power, oh, was that it? Best case - get a '98-99 2.1td, fit a Bosch pump (details on here somewhere) and run it on pig's wee.
