Separate post as i have different symptoms. Last year it was getting a bit slow to cool down. Worked for demsting all winter, then I didn't use for a while as the Bsi was off for repair.
Went to use it and and no cold air.Air-con compressor made a noise when switched on. Ah! I thought (same as my ford) needs a re-gas. Bought a kit from Hellfrauds and gauge said low gas. Part filled the system but it's not getting cold.
Compressor doesn't make a clunk now I've added gas and the revs don't drop off momentarily when the switch is pressed.
Compressor is starting when switch is pressed, guage is showing pressure on low pressure side but the needle hunts slightly on the gauge with the engine running.
Can't see any leaks.(but i haven't had a really good look!)
Time for an "air-con speciallist" or change the compressor?
I can't take customers to the airport in the summer without air-con(I get hot as well).

I'd get a specialist to have a look, these DIY kits aren't really up to the job IMO.

Hooray!
Got a guy to look at my air-con Wednesday.
Said the gas was low, took it out, checked with dye and light then refilled it. Doesn't appear to have any leaks so must have finally run out after 10 years!
He took the grill off and the slam panel to have good look and reassembled it all after.
Took him one and a half hours and he charged me £50 cash
Now it feels like a fridge

Re: Another air-con question
Just to add to the aircon knowledge database, my pug was losing gas only when the engine was running, with green oil coming from the lower block on the left hand side of the condenser. Had a vacuum test done and it was perfect, no leaks. Eventually turned out to be a hairline crack in the flange-to-pipe weld of the bottom pipe which runs along the bottom of the condenser. A new pipe cost £18 and the total bill was almost £200 with 2 hrs labour plus a regas. However, a working aircon is worth every penny on a hot day.
