A new evil genius is coming

Post by mjb »

or for those who (like me a few weeks ago!) can't make things out on those pictures, here's an annotated version...

Due for release at the end of February. Not exactly planned, but definitely not unwelcome either (now I've had my freak-out and come to terms with it) :) Guess I'm flogging the Golf and getting a 5-door one then...

Congratulations Matt (who now appreciates ultrasonics aren't only used for parking sensors).

5-door Glof? :? You need a V6 estate, (or one with some pulling power). :cheesy:

Congratulations mate, life'll never be the same again!

It was at this point that friends and colleagues started hurling nuggets of advice my way, some of them worthwhile and thought provoking, others total bollocks  , but here's the one that proved truest. A mate pointed out that at that time I was king of my castle and master of my destiny and that in a couple of months I'd be the lowest lifeform in the universe and a puppet on a string. I questioned this wisdom to which he replied "the kid will be number one, the whole house revolves around the kid! 2nd comes the Mrs 'cos she looks after the kid, then come friends and relatives 'cos they help the wife, next come the pets 'cos they help to entertain the kid and you're left right at the bottom under the flies and spiders, with any attempted contribution to the household (other than financial of course) serving only to upset the fine balance....

Another friend told me to be prepared to be regularly disappointed by the kids, I thought this was rather harsh at the time but now I see what he means. For every moment of delight (and there'll be plenty of those) there'll be moments of anguish, anger, disappointment, despair, fear, confusion... it's an emotional rollercoaster, you'll love it! Enjoy! :cheesy:

I think it does mean my mid-life crisis can happen a bit sooner though... Lets have a look at those big V8s...

Tried looking up how I could build my own ultrasonic scanner. In theory it's pretty straightforward and I could even make a 3D one without too much difficulty... provided I could get hold of the appropriately high quality transducers required (~3.5MHz). Unfortunately they don't seem easy or cheap to acquire

There's a joke in there somewhere, dying to come out :cheesy:

I've liked being Dad for the last 14 years and it got better for me later on when I could see my efforts coming back through my kids excellent behaviour and manner.

I must admit though that those early baby years can seem a bit robot-like.

It's not easy for Mum, they see others going about their babyness and feel like they're failing at it. Their confidence takes a knock too as their body's are left in tatters like a deflated airbag after a bad accident (CAT B or similar).

Hope this helps.

Congratulations Matt, :cheesy: :cheesy:

the one piece of "advice/insight" i was given, that stayed with me was that

"one day you will have something brown on your hand, and not know if its chocolate or poo, and not really care either, you will just wipe it off and carry on" now that just about sums up fatherhood in the early years for me mate, but I love it.

All the best bud.

Ha ha yes that rear exhaust manifold gasket is a right bugger

I tried getting my lad interested in engines (and to be fair he knows a lot more than his mates now) so we bought a plastic build-your-own engine kit from the Science Museum and set to work...........

...... a few hours later we had the valves timed with the crank and could sit and watch a mock internal combustion process on our kitchen table 8)

A few weeks later the f*cking cambelt snapped :x (true story).
