Indicators

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Indicators

simple question - on a 2000 D9 LX should there be a clicking when the indicators are going? only thing that bugs me about the car!

Not sure about 2000 cars, later ones have a very quiet, electronically generated, 'click' that comes from a tiny speaker in the Com2000 stalk assembly. (You can't hear them either).
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

My 1999 Saloon (early pre-COM2000 D9) does it. It's like a relay clicking on and off.

The 2002 Coupe (COM2000-equipped) does it too, but as Doggy mentioned, it's a softer sound. With the radio on, you can sometimes fail to hear it.

Both my old Mk. 1 Renault Clios did it too. I think it's actually very common.

Learn to live with it - there's worse than that around. The first Iveco Cargos used to have an annoying beep that accompanied the indicators.

Does anyone know where the pre-Com2000 'click' comes from - is it a little speaker or something the OP can check easily?

my 2000 estate does the sound, i don't wanna push my knowledge about it but, i guess the sound is produced from the speaker that does the bleeps if you miss the key plugged in on the dashboard, when the motor is off, and when you forget to turn off the headlights when the motor is off, but it can be a relay, one of these 2 things must be it, and i think is easily something to check.

if they're combined then it would explain why it doesn't beep when you leave the lights on either. any idea which relay?

The warning sounds, like door open, indicators, etc the menu allows you to choose a number of different polyphonic sounds for them.
Although i doubt the indicators one is going to allow you to have something like the nokia tune, its probably a choice of different indicator noises.
Still nice to have that level of choice.
