I know the whole chelsea tractor thing has been done to death but....
Followed a Range Rover sport on my way home last night and I couldn't believe how little ground clearance it had, maybe an inch or 2 more than my 406. Why would you buy an expensive 4*4 that's little more than a reasonably quick MPV?
The same with the new mini, great for tight spaces on the supermarket car park, can't actually fit any shopping in it tho!!
A woman at work wanted to take a hoover back to the shop but had to wait for her husband to get home as it wouldn't fit in her 1 series BMW.
The list goes on.....

Re: Pointless Vehicles
This is funny as I was thinking the exact same thing this morning
I cannot believe the huge range of Cars that BMW and Audi have for example
an X1, X3?, X5 then a Q1? Q3, Q5, Q7 all in the fashionable Sport/Utility/Softroader style and all slightly different in shape and size but they're everywhere it seems.
The Mini Countryman I cannot understand - a Mahoosive Mini? why?
The Evoque is purely for showing off and is probably crap at everything but showing off

One for each 'type' of show off I supposeleestudd30 wrote:The new Mini's are a joke, just how many different body styles do they need?

There's always the 'tragic show off' - those that buy a 2003 Mini to be 'in the gang' but can't really afford to be

I saw a 7-year old Mini Crapper S for sale in my local rag for £6,000.00 recently

Them BMW Mini things are like all these Hollywood remakes, trying to capitalise on the success of an original rather than come up with any original ideas of your own
Fire every single last one of the buggers off that nutter's trebuchet and, when they're in a massive big heap, put a match to it. I'd pay big money to watch that

Re: Pointless Vehicles
Yes, I think that every day. I live in a relatively "posh" estate and it's all 11 and 12 reg X1's, X3's etc... Most of the are pointless and people have them because they can either afford them or have them as company cars (or leased).
I think my car is the oldest one in a half mile radius.... My girlfriend drives a Suzuki Swift 1.5L. Nice little car, perfect for city driving - what more could you want?

But it's rubbish if you need your car to reinforce your sorely lacking masculinity. As if driving a "big bad" minivan on stilts would be any different, but apparently people are suckered by the adverts.Captain Jack wrote:My girlfriend drives a Suzuki Swift 1.5L. Actually, I know one particular reason why softroaders and other tall-ish vehicles are popular. They allow you to look over most other cars on the road. I've driven my dad's Boxer van a bunch and it's actually quite nice being able to see farther ahead.
The higher body and ground clearance allows for longer suspension travel and the added weight smooths out bumps in the road. But that's just because car designers are lazy. Big Peugeots and hydropneumatic Citroëns prove that you can be sleek and comfortable at the same time if you put some effort into it.
Another factor is that by being higher up than those around you, you instinctively feel safer. So really, the people who buy these cars are insecure and ruled by their primitive lizard brains.
The real problem comes when everyone is driving a minivan on stilts and you lose the height advantage. What then?
