ABS INTERMITTENT ACTIVATION AT SLOW SPEEDS AND UNEVEN SURFACES DIAGNOSTIC CHECKS REVEAL NO FAULTS JUST HAD NEW DISCS TO FRONT AND PADS ALL ROUND HAVE BEEN ADVISED (BY A FRIEND)TO TAKE ABS FUSE OUT TO DETERMINE AN ELECTRICAL OR MECHANICAL FAULT IS THIS CORRECT AND SAFE IF SO WHERE IS THE FUSE LOCATED PLEASE

Turn your caps lock off.


Your problem is probably going to be caused by damaged reluctor rings.
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

what are reluctor rings please (caps lock off) and can I disengage ABS temporarily?

Much better.

Reluctor rings are metal rings that fit on the wheel hubs (rear) or driveshaft outer CV joints (front) which have grooves cut in them. There's a sensor mounted near them which reads the grooves and can tell how fast each wheel is going to detect if one of them has locked up.

Hi,

Sorry to re-open this a year on, but I had issue last night, whereby the ABS light came on, and off and on etc. Happened initially just after a rough patch in road. I also had the rear shoes replace a couple hundred miles back, after they broke apart and jammed the rear wheel.
Could these groves of been damaged by the fault? Should they have been replaced when new shoes added and how easy to check for damage?
