Excellent reply Nick. :D

I think that the comments made already reflect my sentiments exactly, this is an open forum where users are perfectly entitled to discuss their experiences, both good and bad.

I would just like to apologise to Nick and the others who run this site for causing them any problems over this posting. I have sent Nick a private message with my thoughts on the mater.

I would like to say much more but it is best that I don't.

My question is: Do car checks normally give accurate mileage information? If the car is HPI checked and the mileage isnt recorded, wont all car check sites not have the information on mileage, not just mycarcheck.co.uk?

But I agree with flyerdave, he was obviously tricked by fancy text and pictures on the site into thinking that he would be provided with mileage in order for him to make the purchase. It should have been made clear that he might get the mileage or he might not, depending on the vehicle.

However, I think its also naive to assume every vehicle in the UK will have accurate mileage readings on these sites so there is some ambiguity there. Bottom line is, the disclaimer is the disclaimer and they (mycarcheck) always make sure to cover themselves against this kind of incident. Buy ya, a very poor response from them to the site.

Personally, and this is NOT the view of 406oc.co.uk, I will be recommending all my friends, colleagues and acquaintances avoid using mycarcheck.co.uk because they like to send in the solicitors when people state they've received what they perceive to be a bad service. In my personal opinion that makes them arseholes and not deserving of custom.

What would be so hard about signing up and posting a rebuttal? Many companies do that on other forums and GAIN business as a result instead of losing it... It is my personal opinion that a company that decides to send in the heavies over a mere poor review despite the obvious repercussions (see The Streisand Effect) is being seriously mismanaged and is doomed to go out of business anyway...

Also it should be noted that as far as I'm aware, opinions are a perfectly valid legal defence to libel (the publishing of false statements which damage an individual/business/etc) as opinions are inherently impossible to prove to be false.

My guess is they'll get the mileage information from VOSA as a result of it being recorded when the MOT tests are taken. Some garages don't bother with it (it's optional I think), and I think new cars don't have to have MOTs for something like 3 years...

Well my personal opinion and impression I get of the website "mycarcheck.co.uk" is that they couldn't organise a p!ss up in a brewery and now realise that, and are having to attack rather than defend to try and minimise profile damage on the net.

It looks like it might just be a bit too late, i have spent a little while trawling the net looking for users comments and positive results and have found very few in comparison to the outpouring of anger and frustration that vast majority of people posting on the net have felt about the information given and service level they received from mycarcheck.co.uk.

It may well be that mycarcheck.co.uk are indeed a fantastic service provider and the postings and complaints are from a small number of very disillusioned users, but that doesn't stop the rot does it?
oh well mycarcheck.co.uk good luck in your continued success and mastery of the market sector you have chosen.

kindest regards

Polskipug

The above opinion is not the opinion of 406oc.co.uk but my personal opinion and I am quite happy for the above message to be edited or removed by the moderators or administrators of this site.

Probably a search, there are companies out there now who make a business out of gathering and collating public feedback from the net and presenting it to the customer in order to demonstrate that they aren't percieved as well as they like to think, with the promise of improving their image. I'd imagine that a company like MCC has people employed in PR who role includes searching the net for unsolicited feedback (Mr. Swift perhaps?).

Since when did we lose the right to an opinion?

I certainly won’t be using the service. Not because of Dave's experience nor because of the c&d request, but because I simply have no need or interest.

Admittedly though, I have just gone to do a check and it does mention that it's subject to availability and it's not hidden. Unless they have just changed that, due to Dave's experience, that's pretty clear to me.

I think the only thing in question now is how the matter has been dealt with. Nick has been the perfect administrator. Defending the forums freedom of speech and opinion but also his transparency. Hat off to you mate.

With regards to "P Swift" .. I suppose they were only instructed by My Car Check. My view, if I've not nothing nice to say, don't say it at all ;)

They could have simply contacted Nick asking for Dave's email address, and contacted Dave directly to resolve the issue, even by offering a refund or free check for the next vehicle. If anyone has caused any damage by this whole issue, its Swift P/My Car Check themselves.

Anything mentioned above is in my opinion only. It is not associated with 406oc.co.uk nor any of its staff, affiliates or members.

I refer you to the case of Councillor John Dixon of Cardiff who's currently facing action for posting a comment on his private twitter page which referred to Scientology as "stupid".

I wish organisations would use their resources to correct their problems and improve their service / image rather than throwing their toys out of pram just because someone has the balls to express an opinion. World's gone mad, mad I tell you  .

:arrowu: My personal opinion, not necessarily the opinion of 406oc.... blah.... blah.... Anyone who has a problem with that can go and interfere with themselves :arrowu:

In my opinion, he's got a point.

First time someone told me about Scientology and what it was about, I thought they (my friend who told me) were taking the piss. Then I read up on it and found out my friend was understating...

It's pretty clear from the context that it was being presented as an opinion and not fact, so I doubt he's hugely worried about it.

The Church of Scientology does have a fair old track record of going after their critics though
