Great news!

People are bound to find ways around these stupid systems sooner or later, lets face it when you start buying a 'Fapped' 406 for sub £1,000.00 you aint gonna be happy with a £600.00 bill for the eggsauce wotnot that has no benefit to the car itself

There are now at least two outfits able to reprogramme the engine ECU to ignore the FAP system, (but for this to be sustainable you have to remove the FAP element before it blocks, as it will in a few hundred miles if it's not regenerated).

Even better, one gentleman has posted the ECU maps with & without the FAP, so you can DIY it, for the price of an ECU flash programming lead. (E-bayed mine last night). :supafrisk:

Tales of woe, or rejoicing coming soon.

Wish me luck.....

I sincerely hope all is well now, good luck :D

 Another failure!
Got the Galleto this morning, but it won't talk to the car either.

This gadget has an LED which should light as soon as you plug it into the EOBD port, but mine doesn't light up.

Now I know this could be a faulty interface, but bearing in mind the PP2000 clone did the same thing and it worked on two other cars, I reckon my port's not working.

I've previously tested for power on it and found 12V there for a few seconds after turning the key on, so that seems alright, but how can you be sure?

It's...... S O R T E D !

To cut a long story short one of the two supplies to the diagnostic connector was missing, (blown fuse - F4 Engine fusebox).
Has to be my lifetime epic fail - (35 years post-apprenticeship experience).

Still, not to worry. Once replaced, my PP2000 worked & I could clear the faults - (about 5, but all FAP / Additive sytem related).

Then, downloaded a modified no-FAP Engine ECU map courtesy of the coupe club and the Dogmobile's completely fault free and going the way it should. (After months in limp mode, you can imagine how pleased I am).

Next, I carried out the 2800 mile overdue oil/filter change

20-30 miles of convincing mayself all is truly well, then with characteristic self restraint, it's off to my private test track to establish some baseline performance data, before downloading the 180 Bhp no-FAP map file.
Another test run and the difference is amazing. 4th/5th gear pull wasn't exactly slow as standard, but this something else.

I'll do some more details later, but how about 40-60 in 3rd 5.0 sec., 70-90 in 4th 10.1 sec., 80-100 in 5th 13.2? (that's standard).

Now we have 40-60 in 3rd 3.5 sec., 70-90 in 4th 7.0 sec., 80-100 in 5th 9.7

Spot the dog wiv two tails :P

A hundred-and-eighty freaking horse powers

So, in summary, you smash out the FAP innards, plug a lead in, press a button, and you've got 180bhp and no FAP system :o

How much did you pay for the interface thing and the new map?

You should start offering to do the FAP-delete service for a fee. If a remap costs between £2-300 it wouldn't be un reasonable to charge £300 to do the same to other 2.2s as you've done to yours & it'd be well worth the money.

If I still had my C5 I'd be heading down the bank now.

As it's not my work and freely available to coupe club members, I couldn't really do it - even if I had the time.

Naturally, I would try to help any forum members with similar issues.

Thanks, everyone. 8)

You know - the FAP thing is the ONLY thing that put me off buying the bloody Coupe diesel! If that's really sorted, then it's time to think again...

Can you post/PM the link to the maps and the eBay programmer, please? :cheesy:

Hi CJ.

Link for map files download here - (you need to be registered on the coupe club to see it).

Programming lead - do a search for 'Galletto 1260' on Ebay - I chose the cheapest price+delivery offering, (can't remember which one offhand), it was £25.50 for round numbers, ordered Thurs midnight-ish, arrived Sat. morning. 8)

What? D'ya think I'm made of links?

It involves removing the DPF, smashing the innards out & refitting - pretty similar to the job you did with your cat really, the DPF's heavier, but a LOT lighter afterwards
