KWP2000 remap stuff on eBay

Post by Captain Jack »

Following doggy's self-remap and self-deFAP of this 2.2 HDI engine, I went on a hunt for potential self-flashing tools/files for my 2.0 HDI.

So I came across this and was wondering what people's thoughts were. For as long as I had my current car, I wanted to remap it but the cost of doing so at £300+ was a little off-putting.

Any thoughts on this? Worth the risk? :?

I don't honestly know, but I'll give you my best guess....

KWP2000 is (I think) an ecu flash programming lead, similar to the Galletto 1260 I bought for about £25. (There are cheaper ones, but this was from a UK seller).

I think either lead will let you copy ecu files to & from your car, but on its own, won't help you modify them. (This was fine in my case as someone had already posted a modified file, I just needed to send it to the car).

As for the other stuff, the ad promises much, but I have doubts about what it will deliver. It's probably a collection of stuff ripped off from other sources or freely available elsewhere. I stress, this is my opinion, it could be gold dust.

If you've got a modified file for your car it'll probably do the trick, but I'd go for the Galletto as we know it works. If you don't , then I would say you need to find out more. Alternatively you could just give it a go - if it's not what you wanted you can probably sell it on for most of the outlay.

Your easiest route is talking one of the modified 110 owners into letting you 'clone' theirs.

Talk Dai into setting up another meet

Hope that helps?

Thanks both for the replies. The meeting up idea is definitely the way go... if I wasn't so far away from you guys :( I am currently in North London, but will be moving even further south to Tunbridge Wells soon with no time to meet in between :?

I think for the sake of £45, it's worth to have a go. Just as long as I have a backup of my ECU map first! Won't be trying it till after I move as I have a lot of driving to do before then!

Watch this space...

Edit: Hmm... these guys are not too hot on that eBay stuff :|

It's worth a try, but on 2.2's, (at least i one case I know about), the file from a 2002 car wouldn't work in a 2001 ecu. Didn't do any harm, but the immobiliser refused to let it start. The guy had to get a modified file based on his original, which worked straight away.

Not saying it won't work, but it is possible that files from later cars are incompatible with earlier ecus and therefore the reverse may be true. I would still try it, because you can always put the original back.

Read the posts on that forum and it seems to me the guy replying and saying
not to use them is doing so because he has got his own mapping business , like
the old saying goes , "You wont know till you try " , what doggy has said about
incompatability between old and new is a possibility , At least if you have copied
your original you can always go back to it .

That's the spirit, Nutski 8)

Mine was easy enough, (once I found the ODB port fuse & replaced it).

My Galletto had absolutely no instructions, but even I managed it. One worrying tendency is to tell you, in Italian, that your download's complete & (I think) to turn off the ignition. Next prompt but one tells you to turn it on, so I figured that's what it must be.

My, (52-plate) 2.2 accepted the 180BHP no-FAP file posted on the coupe site without any problems, but a 51-plate coupe I tried wouldn't accept any of them. Owner got somebody to generate a no-FAP version of his own ECU file, which I downloaded for him without any issues.

Enjoy :)

I'm a little jealous arkchewley cos I wouldn't have said no to a play about with my own map 8) the poorly old clutch might have had other ideas though.

To be honest I'm a bit surprised the 2.2 can manage 180 bhp with nothing more than a Halfords gift voucher and I think we require some custard proof with a session on 'teh rollerz'.......

More than happy to try!!!

I know some companies would try to lock their ECU maps so i don't know if this will be apparent when i try to read mine, will see what happens!! (Should this be where i add a disclaimer???)
I know my OBD port is fine as i was using a Sealey diag box on it a few weeks ago, actually that might be handy for the weekend... :)

Well, mine is specified at 136, but Cat back stainless steel exhaust, egr bypass, Viper induction kit, so techinically could be on 140ish :)

Got to setup an XP laptop to i can have a proper play on the car, not trusting Vista or 7 with my ECU :)

Gonna kinda be sad to see the Saloon go, but 180bhp Coupe is far too tempting to pass on!

Ok, read my ECU last night and here http://www.pug406.com/HDi110Remap.rar is my map file, its from a Y reg HDi 110 which is mapped to 136bhp, if anyone wants to try this feel free but i take no responsibility for any issues caused by meddling with ECUs or this file!!!

I read it twice to be sure and did a comparison to make sure they were identical byte for byte incase of a bad read, came back fine.

Have been able to import it into WinOls and also load it into ECUSafe, neither of which complained about the files.

If you are going to try this make sure you back up your own ECU first, at least twice, and file compare them to make sure its ok.

As i said, i'f you car goes like a rocket afterwards like mine, good! If not, don't come running to me! I'll be trying the same thing myself tomorrow when i get my new car, it is fair to say the toilet paper will be on standby as i'm sure spare underpants will be too.........

I thought I'd download that (just out of interest :supafrisk: ) but Winrar says it's either an unknown format or damaged :? Maybe that's 'cos Windows doesn't understand it but I thought I'd say something, just in case :cheesy:
