error code help needed please

Post by no2lurch »

over the last few days, i have been getting a few error codes on my engine management indicator light. i have read the errors and the crossed referenced them with the manual:

P0220 - TPS/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit Malfunction
P0221 - TPS/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch B CKT Range Performance
P0225 - TPS/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch C Circuit Malfunction

now i would like to know please, are these all related? can they all be solved by replacing the same part? and if so/not, which part/s do i need to replace?

my car is a 2.2 sri d9.

thanks in advance.

They seem to be related 'cos they're all the throttle position sensor :? Could this be the problem? I'd head off to check the connector on it. Don't just replace it without verifying - they aint cheap :(

well i had a look on sunday - i unplugged what i thought was the TPS (the half circle thing that the throttle cable attaches to on the passenger side of the engine bay - can you confirm this please?) checked it was clean then gave it a squirt of wd40 and reconnected.

That's a good place to start (cleaning/checking the connector) then if the fault continues you can look at replacing the sensor (my one for an HDi was about £70.00 in 2006).

Something worth remembering is that the fault may also lie in the wiring/earthing to/from the sensor rather than the sensor itself. There may be some corrosion at the ECU's multi plug or some damaged wiring in the loom somewhere. When the HDi's first came out there were numerous faults with the TPS's and the dealers took to running separate earths from the (previously shared) MAF and TPS units and this cured the problem.

Sensors with variable outputs like the TPS can be checked for condition on an Oscilloscope doo-dad.

just been out to look at the car - there are 4 wires going into the plug - would it be worth connecting one of them to a seperate earth? if so, which wire?

Seems to apply to HDis - your car has no MAF :?

Incidentally, the TPS is quite a common part, the one on the HDi is the same.

I just stuffed a list of them on the coupé club. Go for the engines 'cos it'll probably apply to other models, plus Citroens and Fiats.

That's the boost pressure sensor.
