I am so tempted to buy this off you and drop a 1.9TD in it but got no way of getting it home and if I do buy it I got no money for a new engine :(

Yeah got a feeling it's gonna be goosed, but for £20 for a belt I reckon it's worth a punt. Should be fun doing all that work in less than zero degrees in the snow though.

If it is knackered, then I will see what I can find, may get a 406 estate yet, but thinking something Forester/Quattro style 4wd and with LPG. That said, I would consider a HDI110 estate if I can find one cheap, then swap all my bits and pieces over.

After reading about your belt snapping i became paranoid and checked when mine was last done. It was last done on 63000 miles, its now on 128,200 so im due a change pretty much now. I will be driving slow 'til early january when i have the funds to get it changed

If a belts going to snap, dosent matter weather your engines doing 1000rpm or 6000rpm it will just snap

Best of luck with it chiefy - I vaguely remember someone else having a belt snap on a 2.1 about a year or so back and getting away with fairly minor stuff - here's hoping.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

The 2.1 can sometimes get away with a cambelt snapping, It will genrally just snap the rockers and leave the cam in one pice.
whip the cam cover off and have a look, just remember if the valves have gone it's an engine out job to get the head off.

Not really, unless they're very low compression. Perhaps you're thinking sidevalve :?

The only belt on those drives the generator and the cooling fan, the cam is gear-driven so no possibility of valve damage if the belt goes.
