Battery Terminals

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Battery Terminals

Post by waue1978 »

Not so long ago I had to replace my positive battery terminal as the old one had actually split & was only just in contact. Unfortunately I made a bit of a bodge solution & fitted a clamp type terminal thinking it would do. Having had a closer look, I'd really rather put the proper job on there, but I'm not overly sure which terminal to get or how to fix it to the wiring.

I think I'm supposed to have this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

But £20 seems a bit overpriced to me. Have contemplated getting these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BATTERY-TERMINAL- ... 3a62b0c9b6

But I'm not too sure how or where the wiring fits to them.

Can anybody send me a link to somewhere that I can get the proper terminals for my battery without paying an extortionate price please?

The wires go into ring connectors that are clamped inside the terminal. The add should say "From the 1970s"

I wouldn't know where to buy something like that there any more (tried GSF, Pugspares etc?) but the real thing comes with the cable and costs a staggering £87.52

Rescue one with a good 'battery end' from a scrappy and graft it onto your existing cable?

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

They're advertised as being for Peugeots. Ordinarily I would've thought the terminals I have would be fine, but the terminals on my battery (& hopefully other 406s) are narrower at the top than they are at the base.

They look ok actually. Nice & easy to fit too - as long as they'll fit ok.

I used these http://motors-parts.shop.ebay.co.uk/Oth ... als&_rdc=1 because when the "quick release ones " bit on the battery breaks it`s a pain in the arse cos connection isn`t good or erratic at worst , get these others and it stops all that and you know for sure it`s connected , a smear of vaseline helps if battery is prone to corrosion although the cover should help prevent that .
I found them dead easy to wire up btw. and they`re cheap and quick to deliver (post free)

That link came up with just a list of batteries & couple of terminals. Did you mean these?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pair-Clamp-Type-C ... 53e5ab7f14

That is what I have on the +ve side at the moment, but they don't really fit properly due to the tapered terminal.
