fixing screens

Post by FarmerPug »

So i got the broken sat nav screen:

thats it on inverted mode to show how broken it is.
and then i tried to fix it:

which has not worked.
Has anyone ever tried to repair these screens, is it always a case of just buying one.

Damn, that's no good. I bet the ebayer forgot to tell you it had a special 'Tartan' screen :frown:

I dunno how you'll fix that other than trying another one :?

Is there a model number on the screen itself (not the MFD unit as a whole, but the actual LCD screen component)?

If so, maybe you can buy a screen to replace the one in that MFD unit for less than the cost of another MFD unit.

On the screen bit, as that's what you'd want to be replacing. I reckon the LCD on your MFD unit is duff, not just the ribbons.

Peugeot bought the things from another company. They may be used in other applications (calculators, franking machines, photocopiers, faxes, etc), so if you get the manufacturer's name and part number from the actual screen, it may be possible to track down the company and either buy a new one, or find another product that contains the same screen and cannibalize it.

Siemens makes this screen.
Sagem makes the type b one.

So in essence what has happened here is that when the french use french parts in the case of the sagem unit it works perfectly. But with german parts it gains a reputation for breaking down, essentially the k series of digital displays.

the type b display has a much lower resolution than the type c the pixels on the type b are about 4 times the size of a pixel on the type c thats why so much more fits onto the screen.
