Actually, members of this forum are the only people who have mentioned the interior re-colouring in a negative way. Everyone else seems to like it.
The standard interior of a 406 SRi is pretty nasty, and I think spraying the dash sort of "disguises" the horror of the trim by making it look like the whole thing is intentional. I've owned two 406s and I was sick of looking at cheapo black plastic. Ugh. *That* is what I'd expect to find in a Nova, not an elegant mid-range saloon.
=Technique for spraying bumpers=
I took one trim off to spray it but:
a) I had to snap the door clips off in order to glue the bump strip back. This is due to an apparent design flaw in the bump strip (it seems designed to come off but not go back on).
b) I damaged the paint on the bump strip while gluing it back on and it now needs a slight touch-up.
I left the other strips on to spray them. I used 600 grit wet and dry sandpaper followed by a layer of plastic primer (which is an absolutely essential requirement - DO NOT EVER try spraying components of your car without primer) and then a layer or two of paint.
Note about primer - I tried spraying without sanding or using primer to see what would happen. It doesn't work though; you need to use ten times as much paint and even then it comes off rather quickly. So there's no quick or cheap solution. If you want to paint your car, you need to summon the readies and buy the elbow grease
