dave. thats something else i would honestly not bother with.

for a start. them trim computers are not accurate.

you gotta ask yourself is all the work wireing it up really worth it.

i know this is not the same but i retro fitted an outside temp display that would only read -20 or 35 no matter how many sensors i tried.

after only 1 week i ripped the trip computer screen out and put back my credit card holder back 8)

All three of mine (two retro-fits and one original) have been spot on to well within 0.1MPG

Definitely!

I noticed on the SE I went to look at on saturday, that the gear knob had a chrome ebellishment underneath it

Is this a SE only bit, as when doing a quick search, Farmer P mentioned his Exec didn't have it

If you fancy the bit of bling on the gearknob, just get one out of a coupe or 206 GTi - then you too can have a shiny knob just like mine!

Wouldn't dream of it. I intend to keep it as nature intended. 8)

Nope, shiny knob is in there - just hard to see with a small pic. Here's the large ones:

What I meant, is the part at the bottom of the knob ( and I don;t mean scrotum  ) and above the gaiter is chrome

Whilst i'm thinking about it

How do the mirror backs come off?

I've got the rear spoiler back in primer, and strikes me as a good time to prep the mirror backs and get them sprayed at the same time

remove the glass from mirrors dave.

then 3 T20 torx bolts hold the back on. when you take these out the mirror front and back seperate and both come off the car

That's the lift-collar you use to select reverse (pull the collar up towards the bottom of the gear knob, move the gear stick to the left and push forwards to engage reverse).

This is present on the 2.2 Coupe and 2.2 SRi saloon/estate. It does look nice, but does mean you can't use most of the after-market gear knobs.

The earlier coupe knobs (pre lift up collar) did still have a little bit of metal showing between the knob & gaiter, but it was just a brushed metal effect & not the chrome.
