The problem is that diesels didn't have to be OBD2 compliant until 2004, so Pug didn't bother standardising them. Other scanners can work to some extent, but generally only give you the generic fault code number(s) and allow you to clear them.
You can use planet to reprogram keys, configure replacement ecu's etc. and enable some options, (though generally only on newer cars). Also has live data diagnostics, ability to operate nearly everything in test mode and so on.
