my D8 cost me £650 2 half years ago. i would still get £650 for it today easy if advertised right

I'm not trying to be insulting with that, I just try to be realistic with these things. Early LX (&L) saloons don't fetch much money as they have a poor spec compared with the rest of the range. That & the more expensive tax bracket than a Y plate or later.
Do a search on Autotrader at the mo for private 1999 LX & you'll find one for £750, & he'd probably drop to £700. Broaden that search to any LX & you could get an X plate with 95k for not much more & anything under 100k (even 99k) always sells easier because it's under that magic mark.
All this added to the fact that you guys are up North where everything is cheaper anyway means that you really can't expect to get too much money back. I find that it's better to go into these things with your eyes wide open & low expectations - that way, you're less likely to be disappointed. Hence my advice to Dave (Plod) about trying to recoup some of his money by putting the car back to as standard as possible.
Even with all that I've done to my estate & the very low mileage, I reckon I'd be looking at £1500 to sell it now - & I'm in the expensive South.
