Home CCTV

Post by DaiRees »

Hiya dudes, I'm seriously thinking about fitting CCTV at home but I know nowt about it so was wondering if anyone could offer any advice?

It's one of those areas where obviously I don't want to spend stupid amounts but there's equally no point in buying something cheap if it'll be no good.

From my initial browsing of the interweb I'm pretty impressed with what these things claim to be capable of these days, motion detection, remote monitoring etc, sounds very impressive....

Would something like this be any good? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/*-SALE-*-Home-CCT ... c0fffc2cf2

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :D

Spec looks good. 2tb of storage, sony ccd cameras.

Don't expect miracles form the "night vision" though, IR is very directional.

You can pick up a cheap decent camera for under £50,
all you need is a video that will record in long play,

igot a camera for £25 from nettos it colour and has night vision,
ithink B&q do some to,

ive had my cheap camera for 6 years its been brilliant and its crystal clear day & night,

iwouidnt bother with the expensive ones if you want to loop 2 or 3 cameras then the expensive ones might be a good option,
you can pick up decent ex store Dome and Multiplexers systems off ebay cheap.,

Hi if you want to have the right home cctv camera for you then you must have this.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE BUYING A CCTV SECURITY SYSTEM

1. WHAT DO YOU WANT IT TO DO?
2. WHAT WOULD BE THE MAIN PURPOSE OF HAVING A CCTV SYSTEM?
3. WHAT AREAS DO YOU WANT THE CAMERAS TO COVER?
4. WHAT TYPES OF CAMERAS WILL YOU NEED?
5. WILL YOU USE AN ANALOGUE OR A DIGITAL RECORDING SYSTEM?
6. HOW LONG WILL YOU NEED TO KEEP THE RECORDED VIDEO BEFORE IT GETS DELETED?
7. HOW USER FRIENDLY WILL THE SYSTEM NEED TO BE?
8. WILL YOU NEED TO ACCESS THE CCTV SYSTEM REMOTELY?

I hope this might help you. Just a guide for you. Thanks

Don't expect CSI-style infinite resolution, where they can load a grainy CCTV image into photoshop, grab a vehicle reflection from a pane of glass in the corner, enhance the registration plate, and run it through a DVLA-style check....

I recall seeing someone who had a rather smart way of implementing night vision... Basically he gutted an old LCD monitor, and put a huge pile of infra red LEDs behind the screen. Invisible to the human eye, but to a camera it lit the room like a floodlight at night
