Is there a list of all cars in order of their insurance groups? so that one can see at a glance which ones are in group 1, group 2, etc?
Cause it seems to me that you need to be looking at cars by their insurance group.
And dont forget, any cheap car is a lot better than walking in the rain.

Parkers or similar should have such a list?

I remember reading the book version when looking a car, and narrowed down things like the Cinquecento, AX, Clio 1.2 etc. because they had very low insurance groups.

The AX looked nice but had 4 different sized wheels, and changed gear like a stick in a vat of coal and toffee.

If you can stomach driving a shitty little hatchback for a couple of years, you will find that you can get insured on a more desirable car a lot more cheaply by the time you hit 20.
Agreed with most of your post there but I noted that with some cars full cover is cheaper than 3rd or 3rd + fire and theft. Main problem is I can't allow myself to be seen in a cinquecento or however you spell it (Damn, Fiat. Couldn't you just call it the Crap-500?) I've grown up around cars and I've never really thought of having a crap one, it'd just kill me.

This should *never* be the case; thieving bastards are trying to make money from people who (rightly) expect fully comp to cost more than TP/TPFT.

Consumers need the government to step in and lay down a set of clear and firm rules for how car insurance pricing should work. At the moment, it's not insurance, it's a damned state-sponsored protection racket.

So totally agreed. It's utter complete nonsense, isn't it? I might as well buy two cars and swap them every 6 months as I go back home instead of pay the thieving bastards 8k for a 1.9TD 97 N reg 406.

Definitely.

The 406 for sure.

More exclusive then the "me too" 3 series.
Looks better in my opinion.
People let you out of junctions.
Don't strangely feel the need to constantly "get one over" on everybody else on the road.

Don't worry, its probably just a phase.

The process is unaccountable; the premiums quoted might as well be produced by a random number generator. It does rather stink of a cartel.

Granted there is a problem with "compensation" pay-outs.

Plan B: increase road tax by a factor of 3 or 4 and include third party insurance.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.
