Might be something to do with going from the Facous to a 406 mind?

Welcome to my life.

My sister is learning to drive in July. We worked out if she passed her test yesterday, and it was her 17th birthday yesterday they treat her as the same risk as me.
Bear in mine I've been driving for 2 years and am now 19. :frown:

I've said, insurance prices are rediculous (The quivalent of £50 a week!) and if diesel goes any higher than 150p a litre I will be hanging up my keys, handing my notice in and going on the dole.
I need my car for work, I could get told today I need to be on a site 150miles away tommorow in the middle of nowhere.
I spent 3 months in Bleanavon(Middle of nowhere 50 miles away from me. Where men breed with sheep! Sort of place DaiRees comes from!) which I worked out if I used public transport it would take me nearly 4.5 hours to get there and I wouldn't arrive at work till almost 1pm. I would have to leave work at 3pm to get home for 8pm. It would cost me £30+ a day!

Apprently because I am not in a fixed place of work for more than 2 years at a time I can claim business mileage or something (40p a mile). The boys in work are going to put my onto the accountant they all use.

That's crazy. I'm in the same situation as yours, but luckily for me the car I use is my father's really, and he can pay only 300 pounds a year (which I pay of course, like for all the maintenance), while I'd have to pay 1000+.
Also here the government before Berlusconi's made a splendid law (thanks Bersani!) where a young can enter the first insurance using the same insurance class as one of his parents. This is amazing since I'd be able to pay 400 instead of 1000 a year. Still cheaper for me to register my car as my father's tho. And it's actually not illegal too!

OdinEidolon... i done that for the first two years but without the no claims bonus thats a cracking idea and something that should come in over here but they love to screw motorists so it will never happen....i then went on my own insurance but it was far cheaper then but a year later it was even cheaper when me and the mrs bought a car in her name and it was £200 cheaper than if i put it on mine... bear in mind same age, passed test at the same time but she's female... oh and a worse driver by her own admission.

What i didn't realise until a few months back that in the last three years we've been with admiral i'm clocking up no claims bonus...Maybe thats something for the likes of Bailes to consider for a few years?

 Just realised i didn't say my first two years was under my dads name  it'll mean putting the car in his dads name and being a named driver but after a few years of building ncb he can sign the car back to himself and go on his own insurance... This wern't about Bailes he was just an example but it could work.

I know admiral do this for me but theres probaly an age limit knowing insurance companies but worth a try? May also be worth finding out if other companies do this because lets be fair we look at our excess and the premium then the insurance goes in the draw til tax day comes.

I could car share in certain circumstances. Right now I'm working in Cardiff which I can do in 30mins in the morning with a heavy right foot, but usually just leave 10 mins earilier and sit at 60 behind the lorries. So no point car sharing.

At one point when I was working in Bleanavon I would drive down to my Foremans house in Barry first and go in the van with him. But I was having to leave my house at 5.30am instead of 6.30am and getting home nearly 2 hours later due to traffic. :frown:

Also I am currently on a 10 month NCB 'booster' with Admiral trying to get as many NCB's under my belt as soon as I can.

I daren't front because it is a illegal and the insurance companies are starting to clamp down on it big time.

Hopefully like I said I shoudl be able to claim some money back from tax now which should be a nice lump.
Ontop of that I'm currentley paying £3.50 a day parking and have been since november and will be able to claim that back too :D

Also since last April I probably earn't less that £5k? Yet I'm currentley getting taxed about £35 a week on my usuall ~£200 a week salery. With a bit of luck I'l get a nice cheque back from the tax man :cheesy:

Ring the inland revenue.

ithink your on what they call an Emergency tax code,
They will take weeks /months perhaps a year to put you on the right code, if you dont Hound them
a few phone calls does the trick, pop in your local job centre and use there phone to save on phone bill

£200 a week is pretty grim, by the time theyve took tax and ins out its shite :(
but isee people getting a lot less,

My son is lucky if he comes home with £100 aweek, aprentice mechanic,
they even have the Cheek to ask him to work 8;30 till 6:30 they take the piss,

But irember when ileft school and took up aprentiship with a builder, icame home with £50 that was hard graft,
Mixing cement and carrying bricks up ladders,

looking back now iwouidnt get out of bed for that now,
