Well.... as Dai said Plasmas have greatly improved over the last few years.. The only problem is the weight of a plasma unit, if you want to wall mount it, then a 42" plasma is a no go, unless you have a really good high tensile support, if you are planning on moving anytime soon, then plasma's are a pain, you have to transport them ever so carefully to avoid damage.
A Plasma screen will reproduce better blacks and shadowing, they tend not to suffer like previous versions to picture burn.. Both LCD and Plasma suffer from fading, it is estimated that both displays will lose half of their luminosity* within 10 years, which is why they come with 5 years warranty.
The thing is, and this is the thing, that despite what people say or recommend, everyone see things differently, vision is perceptual and so the best way to go, is down to the shops, see which looks good to you and offers the spec you require… then visit the internet to find it cheaper
