Tyre Advise please

Post by BOOTNECK »

I need to put a new set of tyres on my 406 salloon,it's a 2.0 16v,standard 15 inch alloys, tyre size 195/65/15. The tyres that are on there are in good nick but don't grip in the wet,Pirrelli P6000's. What tyres would you recommend? Cheers in advance :D

my car is the same as yours and i put toyo proxes t1r (i think) and they grip amazinglly well in the wet or dry, in standard size 195/65/r15 they cost £196 for a full set, but i fitted them myself so that helped the cost a bit
i got them off ebay

compared to the budgets i had on before yes, not the quietest tyre but they are good enough, the best all round tyre (mileage, grip wet or dry, noise) would be uniroyal rainsport but they are hard to get hold of in this size and expensive

I definitely don't recommend Kwik-Fit's budget tyres. They work well while they're new but seriously lose grip after they're about 50% worn. Also they are noisy and wear out very quickly - my set have lasted only a year (about 30k miles)

Just a quick update, had a new set of tyres fitted today, went for Continental Conti Premium Contacts,£250 for fitted and so far after about 100 miles they are excellent, very quiet, smooth and grippy even in the damp. I'd recommend them to anyone :cheesy:

I'm using Kumho KH15 about £40 each, they are pretty good, def better than dunlop and p6000's and cost less.

Here's a question... What's good in terms of wear when it comes to tyres? My rears are the cheapo Arrowspeed ones from Kwik-fit and they've only lasted a year (around 35-40k miles). Is that good milage or was going for the cheapest a false economy?

Cheapest is generally always false econemy, altho 35k miles is prob pretty good.

I'm well happy with the Kumho's at £40 each.

Bloody hell  ! I really need to adjust my driving style  . 16-18K mate, by then both fronts and the back left (too many roundabouts!) are generally in need of replacement, I usually remember to swap the backs around to squeeze a few more miles out but not many more...
