They have Xenons standard!

And I think due to the sheer amount of Mondeos on the road compared to 407's means the problem stories are more common.

I do fancy a 407 coupe though :D

There is more 407s round here than mondeos, the biggest customer of mondeos here is the PSNI.
I also would feel more comfortable owning a peugeot with over 100k miles than a ford with over 100k on it.

You know what?
I'm totally torn between them.

407 Coupe...
Pros

No serious common faults.
Nicer looking, different.
Good solid engine.
Better brakes
Remaps to 185bhp.
Great Seats.

Cons
It's 1.9M wide and weighs 1700kg's :o
Abit slow 10.1s to 60 and 130mph
FAP
Not many around - Will I struggle for parts in a few years?
£100 for a headlight bulb :x
Oddbal Tyre size - £160 for a ContinentalPremiumContact
Not many around for £5000

Mondeo
Pros

Has decent performance 0-60 in 8.5s and 140mph.
Better fuel economy.
Weighs 200kgs less.
More practical.
Pleanty Around for spare parts.
Half leather standards.
400NM of torque at just 1800rpm
More availible for £5000.

Cons
Injector failure - £1000
DMF Failure - £1000
Quite common
Recaro seats are a rare and expensive option. Would probably have to fit them at a later date.

You can see why I'm torn.

The slow 0-60 time would be offset if it was remapped to 185bhp.

The price for injectors or DMF for the mondeo look offputitng.
also its a mondeo, the 407 is a big comfy GT coupe, it doesnt need to go fast while your crusing down the riviera if you were going fast how could onlookers apperciate the stunning looks of your car. :cheesy:
The extra 200kg of the 407 gives it a 5 star euro ncap rating the mondeo has 4 stars.

Another plus for the peugeot is that its easy to get a pp2000 off ebay for a fairly low price which can keep the dealer away, im sure ford has something similar but the pp2000 works great

Agreed. If you buy a 407 you can just get PP2000 on it before buying and thus you can check it's functionality, leaks, injectors state, past repairs etc.

But surely Ford has something similar?

Don't put too much weight in the 0-60 time. It can be adversely affected by the gearing. You really need to drive both to get an accurate guage of which one feels quick & also be aware of what type of use it will get to judge if it has the performance where it counts. The old london taxis are quicker to 30mph than a McLaren F1 was, but on the motorway we all know which would be better.

Hard choice Bailes.

Not make or model related.

Coupe has bigger doors so harder to get out of in a parking space.

5 door hatch far more practical

Coupe 4 seater. 5 door hatch 5 seater.

Have you been considering anything else?

Be very careful of what the makers promise both in terms of RPMs at which the top torque appears and of fuel consumption numbers. Of course if you have a good rolling road result then it's OK.
