D8 Fuel Guage and Speedo errors

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

D8 Fuel Guage and Speedo errors

Post by michaeljclark »

So as you may know from when I first got the 406 (and found this site) my 406's rev counter normally sites at 2,200RPM unless I'm giving it some hard acceleration

Now I discover that the speedo needle is stuttering and also jumping about (it it sticks on a speed I can tap the guage - just like the fight pilots did in the war - and it goes back to normal) and the fuel guage is doing the silmilar - it's also taking a long time to read how full the tank is - filled it up yesterday and I was greeted by the low fuel light and then it took alomst 30 minutes to read properly

Any thoughts?

This doesn't necessarily have to be expensive. If you are confident with a soldering iron and have a decent T20 torx head screwdriver, you can get the speedo cluster out quite easily and have a good solder up.

This is what I did to my D8 and have had no problems since (touch wood!)

Hope this helps

These are dry joints on the pcb in your clocks.

If your good with a soldering iron this is simple to do just take your time!

Had exactly the same prob myself and know loads of others have. I'm sure Nick has put on a picture somewhere to show you where to solder.

Good luck!

The picture you want is under Misc in the photo album. This clearly shows the main areas where there can be poor connections.

Keep me updated Pyros as I have heard of many occasions where this has been changed and it still ends up being dry joints on the clocks.

If it does DO NOT TAKE IT TO PEUGEOT as they will just change the whole unit and that will cost hundreds. If you are not happy to take on the work yourself, there are a few websites that will do the work for you for a lot less cash, and you will keep your clocks with the correct mileage.

But hopefully you'll be all sorted! :D :D

well these guys seem fair and only do pug's
was told that if it did happen then it would be
clocks which they will do for £90 all in
didn't think that was too bad but so far so good
time will tell though
