I seen one o dem, I think they're built in Serbia, the one I saw had Serbian plates and I thought he was taking a chance driving through Karlovac...

It's ba-ack :| By Christ that was an unpleasant shock going from the Parker.Knoll recliner of the Pug to the wood and metal school chair of the Toyoyo :( Anyway, it's got a whole new map apparently, and he's done 125km without any problems, which would be more than enough for any problems to resurface. He also had the code reader hooked up to it the whole time and nothing untoward happened,

And the charge? Ker-ching! Nothing.

In other news, I've just left the Pug with the workshop here to have the exhaust fixed and the relined shoes changed over, and then we shall see what we shall see

Sounds like good news on 'Mr T', if tinged with a little regret.

Carn't argue with the price. People that do this kinda stuff are probably entitled to be pig-ignorant [/philosphy]
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Pig ignorant? Oh, for not speaking to me. I don't really care, he fixed the car and that's all that matters really. I'm not really sure why I didn't get charged, although I suspect it's to get on the good side of my mate Goran (well known in the spares trade) and his mate Toma (well known in the repairs trade).

No news on the Pug, I drove past the workshop at about 5 and it was still parked forlornly in the yard. I did kind of spring it on them I guess, and it's not like I need it or owt :(

Pug handbrake update: The relined shoes were fitted yesterday, it didn't help that the place that relined them decided to put the new linings all the way along the shoes from end to end and the mechanic had to trim them back to how they're meant to be before the disks would go over them. I couldn't be asked to swap everything back between cars again, so it's sitting in my garage out of the elements, although a swift test drive showed they were greatly improved*. Obviously they need bedding in properly and adjusting again, so I'll give you a final update once this is done.

* the lever is still fairly stiff, obviously it needs adjusting because the first 3 clicks don't do anything, but you don't need to be a gorilla to lock the back wheels.

I just got this in the old email:

BREAKING NEWS: ANOTHER TOYOTA RECALL

Here - http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/news/br ... ta-recall/
No accidents due to the steering wheel fault have so far been reported but, according to the BBC, a Toyota spokesman has admitted that the problem could, in time, “result in a loss of steering ability”.

I love this bit:
This further recall so soon after the last is bound to cause problems for Toyota but – as with the last recall – one of the main reasons that the announcements have made headline news is Toyota’s enviable reputation for reliability.
Where's a "laughing until you vomit" emoticon when you need one?

I think that's referring to the Firestone thing where they were failing but Ford took a remarkably long time to do anything about it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firestone_ ... ontroversy) and maybe the much earlier Ford Pinto thing where Ford knew that a rear end collision would likely make the car burst into flames but thought it would be cheaper to pay compensation than redesign and retool (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Pinto ... ontroversy). But then most car manufacturers have had recalls for some pretty serious stuff, Mercedes all but scrapped their electric braking system due to the amount of recalls (which has since been taken up by Ford and, er, Toyota) and even PSA which I seem to remember had some flamability issues themselves with relation to the fuel tank inlet and our own 406s with the airbags wired up bass-ackwards.

But it really is a bit of a stupid thing to say after this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_ped ... dal_recall where Toyota also fiddled about while people died.

I think we're pretty level headed about the 406 and we're ready to admit they're not perfect (handbrake anyone?) so it still amazes me the blind faith I see on the Toyota Owner's Club RAV forum, the absolute bloody-minded certainty that everything about these cars is totally perfect and, in the absolutely minuscule chance that it isn't, MrT is ready there to fix it PDQFOC. Never mind 3 engines under warranty

Idont think the Rav is Affected by the steering problem . so iwouidnt worry about it, (most probs its the Modern junk /prius etc )
a friend of mine, as had 4 Ravs upto now, and the only problem hes had steering related, is the ign Barrel,

it can be a Mare to get the Steering lock off sometimes, not sure if thats a common fault,

Edit:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m27SQA5aPpU

just jiggle the key till it unlocks, itl snap eventualy :frown:

Looks like the steering lock gets jammed against the end of the travel, just jiggle the car around with a sledgehammer...

I know this recall doesn't affect the RAV I'm driving (neither did the last 4 that I'm aware of), I just thought it was worth mentioning. I know there is a known steering issue with mine where the column suddenly develops a whole load of play in it but , like the Dcat engines, they only changed them under warranty as and when the cars needed it doing. Presumably because it's not life threatening until the car is too old for them to worry about.
