Nissan is building it. Prototypes have 4 redundant ECUs and a mechanical linkage that is automatically linked to the steering wheel i something goes wrong to the ECUs.

Speaking of Corsa's

Has anyone seen where the Battery is on them
My mate, knocked on the door last night, Battery was flat, and he had spent 2 hours trying to get the battery out,
youve only got too remove half the scuttle pannel plastic to get them out (battery seems to be sat in a nice place too /where all the water gathers :frown: )

anyway ijust bent it all up wards and ripped the battery out, carnt be standing out there to long in this weather, fek that

correct procedure.

1. Remove windscreen wiper arms.

2. Remove rubber seal from firewall adjacent to the location of the battery.

3. Remove the water deflector that sits in front of the windscreen by removing the retaining screws.

4. disconnect the windscreen washer hoses.

5. Disconnect the -ve battery lead.

6. Disconnect the +ve battery lead.

7. Unscrew the retaining bolt (13mm) and remove the clamp that holds the battery in place.

8. Lift the battery from the car but put the battery at an angle to be able to lift it out,

Welly wrote:The electric motor only provides the Hydraulic pumping action of a traditional PAS pump only it is taken away from the Auxillary parts of the engine (to save fuel). For all intents and purposes an 'electric' PS system is the same as any other.

If they ever produce a steer-by-wire PAS system I will walk off into the sunset and throw my keys in the bin.

(awaits someone to tell me that this kinda system is actually available).
Some cars do have hydraulic power steering with an electric pump. This is called "Electro-hydraulic" steering and is generally used with rear-engined cars (such as the Toyota MR2) or cars that were originally fitted with traditional power steering, but for some reason (mostly economy) needed to dispense with the engine-driven pump in favor of an electric pump. Still others use it for the superior steering feel of hydraulic power steering while gaining fuel mileage by using the more efficient electric pumps that can be switched off and on as needed. The 407 and 508 are in this latter category.

Most electric power steering systems these days are actually a powerful electric motor wrapped around the steering column, no hydraulics at all. This way, the system only consumes power while you're actually turning the wheel. All small cars today use fully electric power steering, which also allows you to easily implement tricks such as super-light city mode steering in modern Fiats.

Fully steer-by-wire systems have not yet been put on sale, but I know Nissan is currently experimenting with it.
