correct procedure.
1. Remove windscreen wiper arms.
2. Remove rubber seal from firewall adjacent to the location of the battery.
Some cars do have hydraulic power steering with an electric pump. This is called "Electro-hydraulic" steering and is generally used with rear-engined cars (such as the Toyota MR2) or cars that were originally fitted with traditional power steering, but for some reason (mostly economy) needed to dispense with the engine-driven pump in favor of an electric pump. Still others use it for the superior steering feel of hydraulic power steering while gaining fuel mileage by using the more efficient electric pumps that can be switched off and on as needed. The 407 and 508 are in this latter category.Welly wrote:The electric motor only provides the Hydraulic pumping action of a traditional PAS pump only it is taken away from the Auxillary parts of the engine (to save fuel). For all intents and purposes an 'electric' PS system is the same as any other.
If they ever produce a steer-by-wire PAS system I will walk off into the sunset and throw my keys in the bin.
(awaits someone to tell me that this kinda system is actually available).
