Interested to know what engine you have and just how much extra grunt she has - oh and the cost :P
Was it a stage 1 remap?

I have been toying with this idea myself...........

I got the impression that maps for the 2.0 aren't as easily available as for the 2.2.

Anyway, is it good?

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

The problem is there are lots of hardware software variants, so they don't tend to be so, er, portable

Scotty went up a steep one earlier and the car wanted to be in 5th  It's only a 30mph road too.

Not really driven it yet but will be towing 190 miles over the weekend so will know a lot more after that (that also means that Scotty won't be beaming up any pugfest hill because he's headed in the opposite direction) Well it is the wifes 40th.

What i have noticed is in low gears it wants to go and 60mph seems to come quickly without realising and the car seems to stay at that speed for longer than usual without even touching the loud pedal (or is that in my head?) :?

Regarding Sonia's remap, can she have a remap with it being petrol? or is it just the hpi's that can't be mapped? i thought mapping was a diesel thing?

@Rwb: It's good and only cost 45 notes for the map.

1.8 20v petrol golf mapped
That's because it has a Turbo, remaps can only make a big difference on Turbo's - a Diesel turbo is remapped by allowing more fuel (and sometimes more boost) and a Petrol turbo is remapped by allowing more boost primarily and then additional fuel.

A normally aspirated Petrol can only really squeeze another 8 or 10 bhp max by remapping the fuel slightly.

True, I am looking at putting a garret turbo on it, failing that a GTi 6 engine transplant ;)

One way or another she will most likely be mapped lol :)

That would be a huge undertaking, adding a Turbo would need head work, possibly pistons + rods, uprated engine cooling, a stand alone ECU, different injectors, fuel pump, an intercooler and all the plumbing where there's not much room.....the list goes on.

A GTi6 engine is revvy so you have to drive around like a lunatic to get any performance out of it.

None of the Petrol engines are tunable without serious cash and time, even then you'd have questionable reliability.

You need Torque and lots of it; a 2.2HDi (tuned) or a V6 are the only real contenders IMO.

Done a drive this morning that i do regularly from home to school then up to Asda, reset the trip when i left home like i have done before on the same journey.

I normally struggle to hit 37mpg but today i saw 42mpg... It's the first time I've reset the trip since the map because the short journeys i have done my right legs has been really naughty so i thought I'd make it behave today. :supafrisk:

Apart from stripping the interior out to shed weight, you'll struggle to get any extra performance out of a V6 without some very serious cash - without dropping tens of thousands on a turbo/supercharger, you'd need cat removal (new manifold on the ES9J4S), bigger injectors, air scoop, custom inlet manifold, bigger throttle body, improved oil cooling and a new ECU... which is thousands anyway

Better to buy a different car with a bigger engine - cheaper to buy and cheaper insurance than for a modified car
