Wiper squirties gone crazy!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Wiper squirties gone crazy!

Post by Peter86 »

Morning guys,

I was driving to work this morning and my wiper squirty didnt work, then all of a sudden it was coming out from my right hand headlight (on motorway lol)

When i stopped at work and inspected, the cover on the bumper where the headlamp squirties are was hanging off. It was glued on, so almost like the pressure of it trying to open has caused a problem.

I knew my car had the front headlight washers - but i have never used them - or even knew how? Do they come on automatic when you do the windscreen?

Anyway - now when i go to wash the windscreen, i get a fountain from my headlight! How can i cure this one? dont mind loosing the headlight washers...

Thanks Pete

Mourning :cheesy:
Windscreen and headlamp wash
Pull the windscreen wiper stalk
towards you.
The windscreen wash then the wind-
screen wipers operate for a fixed
period. The windscreen wash and
headlamp wash operate simultane-
ously for a few seconds,
only if the
dipped beam or main beam head-
lamps are on.
Did you try pulling the headlamp washer fuse? (Fuse 7 full-mux)

Morning, the headlight washers activate when you have your headlights on and you use the windscreen washers. This can be deactivated with pp2000 if you have access to it.
In the meantime, remove the three small torx screws from under the bottom of the bumper, drivers side and gently pull down the cover. There should be 2 motors, one nearest you is front windscreen and the other is headlights. Check all pipes for blockages and fitting to see if anything is amiss.

You may get wet at some point......

If you didn't know, there's a hefty water pump and large(r) hose to the jets in the bumper; the warty pressure makes the jets push out of the bumper (diagonally) and squirt the headlights.

Sadly I think we all concluded long ago that all these things do is squirt and make a mess of your bonnet! they serve no other use, I mean, since when did squirting a bit of cold water on something actually clean it?

I disabled my headlight washers when I fitted a non-exec bumper to replace my fubared one. I had to also change the reservoir, remove the unused hoses, jets and swap motors over...

I only did this as I didn't fancy cutting holes on the bumper for the jets, and I think if the headlight washers are fitted then they check for function on the MOT?

I don't think so - a headlamp cleaning system is a requirement if you have HID's, (as is a working beam levelling system or self levelling suspension).
Bet that never gets overlooked.

What I find a pain is that the headlight washers activate everytime you clean the screen with the lights on which seems a total waste of washer fluid,my BMW headlight washers only activate every 6th time you clean the screen which is far more sensible, even better was my old Manta GTE and my old M535i had actual wipers on the headlamps which really did clean them.
