Auto Glym Metal Polish...

Post by Playtime_Fontayne »

I was reading the tube just after doing my chrome with it the other day, and it says you can use it on alloys.

Tried it and it came up fantastic, you can really see the metallicy finish. Highly recommended. If you want to see just how much of a day you can pass cleaning the car........

You know, I'm sure I used to have some friends...

OK dude, so what we need you to do next time is polish only half of the wheel and then take a photo of it for us all then we can see the difference ! :D

Forgive me if I'm wrong here, but I thought the chrome trim bits on a modern car are plastic coated stuff and not 'chrome on metal'.

I thought the Metal Polish was for old cars with 'proper' metal/chrome bumpers :?

And I thought alloy wheels were generally painted and laquered..... :?

I dare say you're both right fellas, comes up well though!

My old car did have huge chrome bumpers (American) thats where I had the tube left over from! :cheesy:

Yeah I'm sure it's acting as a rubbing compound and taking the top layer of material off, including the crap. T-Cut would probably give the same result and be a bit less aggressive :? .

Great if it's working but be careful not to rub through the protective layers....

Good Point Dai,

I'd be mightily distraught if I rubbed through to bare metal! !

I'll give the T-cut a try. Its just mainly for removing the odd bit of staining but I got carried away with the sheer fun!!

I think on the chrome bits, you'd be more likely to rub through to plastic, rather than metal.

And let me tell you, if you rub through that chrome bit between your front bumper and grill, there'll be hell to pay. You'll have Dai, Welton and loads of others out for your blood.

I've just amended my will to include the plastic chrome bit!!

If I should peg it, whoever gets to my car and prises it off can have it!!

I though we (I) decided that although the chrome bit will fit, it appeared that the black grille was slightly different too because it sat ON the chrome on Play's car whereas if you look at your standard black bit now there is absolutely no way anything could go under it there's no room!

I haven't found out how much the black grille would be yet.

...carry on.
