Another starting trouble thread
Ok so typical post about cold starting been fine all summer now its getting cold it takes an ages to start
Had a free battery check done 95% health and the alternator is putting out 14+V. Ones its been started for the day its fine. It takes a good 10 seconds to start and sometimes it will 'catch' and if you release the key it stalls so you have to hold the key for a split second more. Another this the first 1-2 secods it sound like its miss firing.
Glow plugs? injectors?

Re: Another starting trouble thread
Been thinking about this, the possibilities include:
Lack of fuel, (lift pump or injectors)
Lack of compression, (low cranking speed or engine wear)
Intermittent operation of crank or cam sensors.
Glow plugs might affect it a bit, but if you can normally fire it up before they've had a chance to do anything, you don't need them.
It does sound similar to Captain Jack's recent injector problem, therefore I recommend:
Check the lift pump works every time.
If you can get it diagnosed cheaply, do that next.
Do a leak-off test.

Chris, feel free to make use of my PP2000. Yes, do a leak of test first - I can help with that if you want as well.

Re: Another starting trouble thread
I take it from your last reply the problem has gone away ?
I also have a starting problem on my 406 1996 petrol, but only in the mornings when it's cold, however my car is petrol not diesel, could the same apply for me ?

I'm reading that as a yes, can you get your injectors tested/cleaned where you are (without sacrificing a kidney that is...)406owner2 wrote:I take it from your last reply the problem has gone away ?

Re: Another starting trouble thread
I've been having the same trouble with cold starts since I got my 406. I've already wasted money on glow plugs, getting the starter motor reconditioned, then I forget for 9 months until it's winter again
Will a PP2000 be able to give me any useful hints towards injectors if one of them is dodge? Or should I do a leakoff test? And did you get them reconditioned or replaced? How much did it set you back?
I've got a Siemens HDi, so no lift pump, right?
