Auto dip rear view mirror
I understand the coupe 406 is sometimes fitted with a auto dip rear view mirror. I've seen a few of these go through ebay at a reasonable price. Can they be easily fitted to a normal salon model or is it more involved than that?

My estate's got one of them. It's electrochromatic, i.e. auto-darkening rather than auto-dipping. Never actually looked how it works, just content that it does
, but I always assumed it needed a power source. If so this could be taken off the courtesy lights? Should be easy enough.....
Actually coming to think of it perhaps it doesn't need a power source.... could be "solar powered" like an auto darkening welding mask

Myself, I think it works brilliant. I think it was fitted to the SE coupe, not the S. To get it working, there's 3 cables, a positive, negative, and the third is from the reverse lights, so it doesn't dim when reversing. You can just make do with the 2 cables (pos & neg) and if it bugs you when reversing, there's a switch on the mirror itself.

Auto dipping mirror
So, does this mean it would in effect (bar a little wiring to the interior light) be a direct replacement to the standard manual dip mirror? If it is I will have a look on e-bay to see if any are going through at a reasonable price.

auto dip mirror cable colours
Hi guys, I now have chance to fit the mirror, but no one really answered my question to which cable does what. There are three wires - white, black and grey leading to the mirrior. I've had a poke around in the headlining and cant find a pre wired loom (LX saloon Hdi on a X 2000 plate). All I need to know which is positive and which is negative, there must be someone with a later (post 2002) haynes manuel with details of this?????

Please help :o(
Someone must have a wiring diagram for one of these mirriors in a later haynes manual or coupe, I don't want to start trying out various connections in case I bugger the mirror.

Auto dip
I don't think a multi meter will help, I'm adapting something that isn't wired for my model 406. I need to know what wire would do what if it were originally wired in.
