206

Post by FarmerPug »

Has anyone had any experience with a 206, my sister is doing nursing and out on her placement, she had been using my dads kia but she needs her own car for placement.

The search a car was focused mostly on small stuff for insurance purposes, and petrol therefore there would be no turbo, injector, dpf or egr problems to deal with, we looked at a few toyota corollas, a few clios, and some 206s, this nice original example was on gumtree:

Its a 2005 1.1 Sport 3dr, its a nice trim level with alloys, trip computer, air con, leccy windows and mirrors, 40,000 miles and 7 months mot my dad haggled the price down from £1850 to £1600
We went down this evening and took a look at it, my sister liked the colour of it, i checked over it and it all seems in good condition, the engine is clean, good oil, good coolant no leaks, no rust, there are no squeaks or rattles.
The engine is a 1.1 Petrol the same TU5 that my grandpas 106 has so it should be easy to run and maintain.

Are there any issues with these cars, the back axle is the only thing i can think about being tricky to repair but at 40,000 miles hopefully that wont need attention for a while.

Timing belt last done?

A 1.1 would be as slug. The 1.4 8V TU we had in the C3 (before it was written off) was awful...!

I've done a couple of diagnostics on these, both were dodgy injectors - on the 1.4 engine though.

Everything else seems good ( you know about the rear beam ) and the rest is general French stuff ..

Looks like a nice mowtah...

Those injectors can be sorted by removing them and swapping them around....done this lots of times.

We had a petrol TU (single point inj) in a Citroen AX, it was horribly abused, never serviced but gave no trouble, tough old thing.

We used to have one for the missus, a 1.4. When we got it it had an issue with starting when the engine was warm and it had been left for a 30 minutes (starting issue meaning it wouldn't) turned out to be a faulty water temp sensor.

We also had to replace the front wishbones For MOT (80k miles, a year apart) they are a bit of a pig to do on the floor, but manageable.

That was it in 5 years, apart from a bit of rust bubble on the front of the bonnet.

I would buy one again (though it would probably be a 206cc, as they don't cost much more and look great as long as you don't need the rear seats)

The 206 is a good little car,

timing belt changes on them is a doddle. (takes longer to take the wheel & arch liner off )

weak points * Gearboxes /Coilpacks if its on its original coil pack..swap it
