After owning a 106 then a 206 then a 205 then a C250td estate (boooooooo) then a 306 (which blew the HG) I knew Peugeot was my preferred mowta.

My daily commute is an 80 mile round trip so it had to be comfy, a mile muncher and run on WVO. After fitting the Bosch pump from my deceased 306 I've now driven 25ish thousand miles in a year and can't find any reason to grumble, its the most comfortable car ever....+1. A 2.1td Lx saloon is my current car and its perfect for my needs. Only car which could possibly top it is a 2.1td exec estate. :)

I have had a long line of Citroen diesel estates, previously I ran quite a few that I had converted myself as most manufactured diesels left a lot to be desired. Then I drove a CX and was blown away by it, the performance and refinement were second to none at the time and over a period of about 10 years I had three of them starting with a CX25 DTR Safari in the mid '80s. I then had XM Td estates for 15 years and eventually a C5. I long ago came to the conclusion that Citroen/Peugeot made the best diesel engines and the Citroens the best suspension.

The C5 I was a little disappointed in compared with the XM, although it had the space and ride expected, it didn't handle as well as the previous Citroens. Then I drove a 406 and it handled well, the comfort was good as was the viability, it has the same engine and gearbox as the C5 so I was becoming familiar with them, although not as big as the C5 the space in the estate is still good. They are reasonably easy to repair compared with many modern cars and as I do all my own repairs that goes a long way with me.

I believe that the 406 Hdi is the best value for money on the secondhand market and many of them will still be going when a new car bought now won't be. I have obtained a couple of them for friends who have also been pleased with them. The 8 valve 2.0. Hdi must be the best engine that Peugeot have made, mine has now covered 0ver 240k miles with no serious problems. I thought the XUD's were good but they always seem to need a head gasket at about 150k, the Hdi's seem to be indestructible and I shall continue to run them as long as I can.

I bought mine after writing off my money pit of an Audi A6 Quarto 1.8 turbo that had been moded to over 320bhp
Any how I was skint after the Audi so started looking round for something big ie an estate.
It had to be cheep to buy & run ie
Road tax £130.00 , cheep on fuel (diesel) so 45+ mpg , cheep & plenty full parts (euro car parts, breakers, ebay , ect)
Nice to drive, nice to look at, easy to mod & robust for the family plus long lasting .
I looked at all the usual suspects,
MG Touring, to expensive at the time + good from some angles but a bit to granddaddy from others
Ford mondeo 2.0 tdci, again more money than I had at the time in (ST trim) + a ticking time bomb (dmf/clutch,injectors+coding ect)

There were many others but all were to much money or time bombs / money pits & I was still hurting from said Audi
So I searched hard & found my current stead,
My one owner 78k 2002 Monaco blue Rapier estate :)
She's a work in progress when funds / family & time allow
I really should update my signature & pic's, I'll get round to it one day, I'm cap with computers
The current spec is something like this,
Pi 40 / 20 mm lowering springs, Bilstein b4 shocks all round, coupe strut brace & wheels.
Lots of new Bushes / links /drop links & strut top's ect.
De-catted, de-egr'd, 2.5 inch st/st exhaust, one off intercooler & boost pipes, oil cooler kit.
Currently running approx 145bhp with 300ish lbt :D
But more is on the way :cheesy:

Best car I've had for years for value for money & highly recommended.
I just wish I'd looked round for a 2.2 hdi SE, low milage, late year.
Instead of buying that bloody Audi & proceding to blow over 6k & 12 months of my life moding it on it
:supafrisk: The wife don't read this :supafrisk:
2002 110 HDi estate, Rapier in monaco blue! ( found quite a bit more power :cheesy: ) SOLD I've sorted the airbag light :cheesy:
1998 3.0 V6 SE coupe in Diablo Red ( my baby ) sold
2006 206 1.4 16v sport in Aegean blue ( wife's shopping trolley  )

2006 BMW e61 535d m-sport :supafrisk: run's for cover

My first C5 was a 2.2 but I got rid of it on the grounds of poor fuel economy. :frown:

I was looking for another Xantia to replace the third Xantia I had...I loved the Xantia's, but couldn't find one with a zillion miles on it...then I saw this silver 406 90 hp absolute mint condition with 23,000 miles on it...bought it there and then :cheesy:

main reason why you chose a 406???

I got my first 406 in 2012, always loved cars and unfortunately my first car was a Metro, hated every minute of it, then graduated onto my first new car which was a 2001 Volvo S60t as my company car, I did look at the 406 in 2001 but I always thought that Peugeot was expensive and bad on fuel. I was a sales rep and drove many miles across Europe but one stop in a petrol station changed it. There was a dealership next door where I popped in and saw my first 406 V6 sedan in the back, beautiful and just simply could not leave the dealer without it. The car used to belong to a elderly man with low miles but a couple of things wrong (of course). I paid €4450 for it and got it transported back to the UK that day. Importing was a breeze and that weekend I spent racking up the miles driving it basically every moment I had. Now I have 2 406's, one is the V6, a HDI 110 and a HDI coupe that I am in the process of buying. I have also recommended them to a lot of friends who love them. I have currently have spent over £2800 overhauling the car and getting it into almost new condition. I love the car so much when I had a chance to move to South Africa for 6 months of the year I shipped it down there.

I had a Xantia estate TD VSX before the 406.I was tempted with my Dads 1st 406,on a X reg but it was only a 90 bhp. After driving his 2003 estate 110 bhp a few times,i brought it off the company at 3 years old.By the time i brought it the price had gone up a fair bit,but it was 3 years old,56k miles, with 1 driver in which i knew the history. We need a biggish car for our caravan, and the 406 towed better than my Xantia.
I only brought my 407 as for a 7 year old car it was very cheap,170 hdi twin turbo, and red leather,my ideal spec. And the dmf and clutch were done 6k miles ago.
