Re: My new 406 project....
Couldn't agree more. My lad & I recently went to France in his 11-plate 320D - it's tighter and nimbler than mine, has less rattles and a nicer gear change but the overall sound level is pretty much the same. Made me appreciate just how good a mile eater the old bus is, (plus it's got more grunt, cruze, climate and short-arse approved armrests).

Re: My new 406 project....
Hi Eric, no. I was watching some on tinterweb which turned out to be 20MB02 which is unsuitable, and the 3 or 4 20MB04 I found were all over £350, which is too much moneh for the miles I do now.Doggy wrote:Good for you Kelv! Best of luck with the MOT. Did you go for a 6-speed in the end?
Thanks Welton, I am more attached to this car compared to the other 2.2hdi I had - not sure why though, I just iz.Welly wrote:Excellent, nice to see someone looking after a car to keep it running sweet. To be fair a well-sorted 406 is hard to compare or improve upon.

Well done Kelv.
It never fails to amuse me how much a reliable Pug iritates pug-haters.

Re: My new 406 project....
New clutch and DMF fitted today - it was sort of nice to check the underside of the car while on ramps with the sub frame removed, everything looks okay..
The clutch bite is very low compared to what it was like before, maybe this will change in time..??

Re: My new 406 project....
Another update - must be crap on the telly....
The clutch and DMF seem fine but it seems I have lost a bit of power at the lower revs, and the steering is a bit heavier than it used to be. The car has been double checked by the garage and given the all clear - I've used contact cleaner on all the connectors I could see that may have been disturbed when the gearbox was removed. I've been doing research and the clutch/DMF only goes on one way so I guess its all good, its just that something isn't quite right.
Nothing shows up on PP2000, I've cleaned the TPS, changed the MAF, the MAP sensor, refurbished the fuel pressure sensor (which has made a small improvement) but does anyone know if the clutch has been badly adjusted? I know its hydraulic but could the heavy steering be connected to something being out of place?
The car has been brilliant otherwise, and its now using an IQ93 remap from ECUedit ( thanks again Eric ) - sadly until I resolve this power loss issue I won't really feel the benefit.... I still enjoy driving it, its just that I know it could be a better driving experience...
Oh, and I'm working on doing a budget oil cooler using bits left over from the Nicopipe modification

Always crap on the telly.
Oddly enough my steering was a bit heavier after swapping the gearbox, just perceptibly so. There wasn't anything wrong with it and either I got used to it or it loosened up again, it's fine now.
Hope you get to the bottom of the power loss issue. I can't think what else to try, but if I do I'll let you know.
Looking forword to hearing how your oil cooler mod works out, (I seem to have a few of those).
Oh well, back to the intermittently not charging / suspect starter / dodgy coolant temp sensor / ABS/ESP fault ridden 807.

Re: My new 406 project....
Have you checked/replaced the fuel pressure regulator on the high pressure pump? My 110 had become lazy and smokey a few months after the remap, and it turned out the FPR was really dirty and the seals had perished so I changed it for a new genuine Bosch one and it cleared things right up. If you're not currently in a position to replace the whole thing, the seals can be purchased from Pug and you can replace them yourself, bit too fiddly for me though and I'd have ended up breaking it!
No more hesistation or smoke now. I suggest you go for a drive and compare the demanded fuel pressure with the delivered fuel pressure, mine had a significant deviation at full throttle which was causing my issues.
Hope that helps!
Ben

Re: My new 406 project....
Hi Ben, thanks for the info - I did buy a set of seals and washers to refurbish the sensor, which was actually quite easy to do ( the green washers are a pack of 4! ) which did make a difference, and I'll probably do the wife's Picasso with one of the remaining washers next.
Maybe the car just needs to 'bed-in' a bit but I'll carry on using the car until I get an epiphany of some sort.
I have recorded 3 drives using autoscreenrecorder ( Parameters1, Parameters2 and a Parameters1 on a bypass blast... ) which I am happy to share, to see what other members think of the readings?

Hi Kelv,
I'd be happy to look at your readings and generate a set for comparison, if you can clue me in on how to get autoscreenrecorder up & running, (assuming my neolithic laptop can hack it).

Re: My new 406 project....
I'll happily take a look at the video, have you got a link to them? The oil cooler project sounds really interesting, I feel the factory water/oil exchanger is not really good enough on remapped engines as the oil temp rises quite quickly after prolonged heavy acceleration! I've started using ester based fully synthetic oil now (Fuchs Titan Race Pro S) which is ideal for performance/tuned engines as it offers much better protection, handles heat and abuse far better and for prolonged periods of time. Highly recommend it to everyone on here with an HDi.
